Heavy Read Stool by Laura Cahill

1105_cahill.JPG

There's a definite visual appeal to books, so much so that some people even hire the services of decorating with books. This design by Laura Cahill takes that visual appeal and translates it into a useful little stool...

In her work entitled "Heavy Read", unwanted books are through-bolted to provide a sturdy stool surface. The stool project evolved from Laura Cahill's other projects that put old books to use - book page vases wrapped around glass labware:

Why don't you blog about some Macaroni art? It would be more appealing than that table. Awful!!!

I like the vase, but I couldn't bring myself to sit on/use that stool/table/whatsit.

Dear AT... why do you hate books so much? I'm all for the art-book movement, but seriously... this is not book art. It's book violence.

Ok, I'm not going to get into this debate. But. The stool looks heavy and hard to clean.

In my book, this table definitely rates as vandalism.

Anyone who actually cares about books wouldn't do this to them.
