Everybody loves a pet portrait, right? We found these amusing images online - from a 2007 Australian-based photo project, "a labour of love" for artists Justin Spiers and Yvonne Doherty. Documenting owners and their pets, the duo believes that "the novelty settings and presence of pets seems to inspire their human companions to open up to the camera and the resulting portraits are engaging, funny and range from the beautiful to the bizarre." Take a peek:

Very cool.

It's a cool idea, but far from original and I've seen it done better. A photographer should know how to shoot a black dog proper.

They're unconventional but very evocative.

I agree with you, Kimber. The lighting is pretty bad.
I love the picture of the girl with her bunny, though!

Kimber - I think that was the point.
They are all weird and a little funny, that's what I like about them.

Maggiesfarm, I totally get the concept. I just think it could have been MUCH better with a different lighting scheme.
These photos are how you do quirky shots with muted hues.

Just add pets ;)
(p.s. Aaron Ruell was the uber-nerdy brother in Napoleon Dynamite; he is responsible for the stills from the movie. Ridiculous film, but I love this photography.)

My friend was a volunteer helping out on this when it came to Perth, Western Australia. She picked up a lot of dog poo!
