Typewriter Prints

For typewriter lovers who want to steer clear of "dust collectors" at any cost, consider hanging a typewriter print (or series of prints) on the wall rather than displaying a three-dimensional object. Here are five types:

1. Pink typewriter - hand pulled screenprint 7x5 (vickeh on Etsy, $20)
2. Little Olivetti...8x10 Reproduction Print, (michele maule on Etsy, $20)
3. Set of 6 typewriter prints, 12" sq (designed by Charles Fradin for Pottery Barn, $99)
4. The Typewriter - 8x10 Print, (squidart on Etsy, $20)
5. Keep Calm and Type On - 5x7 print, (Nan Lawson on Etsy, $10)

Wicked!
I am still pining for the $20 vintage typewriter I passed up at an estate sale last month. But this will satisfy me for now.

People, let me recommend that you DON'T buy the six silk-screened typewriter graphics from Pottery Barn. I did, and when they came, I was dismayed by how crude they looked. I'm not much of a returner, but these went straight back. They look much cooler in the PB catalog than they do in reality.

There are so many cool typewriters out there, but I have yet to see a print or an engraving that does them graphic justice. What would I like? A series of simple color photographs of the classics. The Olivetti Ettore Sottsass designed. The IBM Selectric. The classic black pebbled-steel Remington that writers favored for years. Etc.

I don't like prints that take graphic liberties with the exact lines and curves of typewriters and their components. Typewriters were all about careful design and engineering. It would be nice to have graphics that paid homage to the underlying charm of the typewriter.
