apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

The Fall Cure: Week Four - Weekend

Good Quotes:"I've been in a state of low psychological energy this week, and have done approximately nothing, despite the fact that my living room is very much in need of help. So I came home for lunch today (love being able to do that!) and just straightened things up for a solid 20 minutes. And, know what? That helped. It's getting the first 5% and the last 5% done that I always struggle with, I think." - Mella DP

5-5--cure.jpgYou are at the end of Week Four. Our Flickr group has been hard at work and there are a ton of great photos recently uploaded. Next week we move on to decluttering files and paperwork, which for most people is a big job.

Before you start, give yourself a little time to sit in your space and take a minute to think about how far you've come! (It will help motivate you.) As Mella DP says in her quote, a little clean-up can go a long way, so do what you can. (Checklists and Links below the jump.)

I am working on my bookshelves this weekend: last cure I donated 12 boxes of books. I'm running out of space again and I'm agonizing almost over each book, asking myself if Im really going to read it again and how often.

There are some great pictures on flickr. Can't wait to see designisaverb finished backsplash. I really like urbanconjure colors in the livingroom

I've just been reading the October issue of Canadian House and Home, and I found some images I'd like to share...

This weekend I had to declare a moratorium on Cure spending (or any extraneous spending, for that matter -- see http://serenityathome.blogspot.com for details) but that doesn't stop me from dreaming (and when you dream, dream BIG).

Dream along with me...

This one is a little tricky, but click on "catalogue" and as the moving images go by, watch for "Merrick". I'd love to sit tucked into one of those curvy bits, and read and relax... (not practical, but who says dreams have to be about practicality?)

Now a couple of places to *really* dream...

And finally, a dining table. (None of this furniture remotely resembles what I currently own... maybe that should tell me something?)

smallcitybeth- that merrick sofa is beautiful! I hope that your dreams will come true for you somedays. I'm all too familiar with the one step forward and two backward lifestyle when it comes to finances...
Curewise, I did not accomplish all I set out to do this weekend, but enough was done between decluttering, cleaning and organizing.
On with next step.

well, I went away for the past few days for some much needed r & r. Staying in hotels opened my eyes to a few things- especially about what I really need on a day to day basis- and is making me question why I have so much "stuff". Also- I did NOT buy any more chairs this weekend - although I have to admit I was tempted by a nice little plywood baby that was dirt cheap.
I have work to do this week- I have taken over the job of filing from my husband- I just found out just how badly he did it- and it's a bit overwhelming.
I have to find a list of how long to keep things- irs stuff, credit card stuff, bills etc... anyone have this info?
thanks!

Lorijo -- there's a bit on that in the AT book, page 160. Here's another list, found at realsimple.com http://www.realsimple.com/realsimple/content/0,21770,688987,00.html

I googled financial papers what to keep and got many hits.

Hope this helps!

"that" being how long to keep financial records -- I really need to remember to note what I'm responding to!
