Upon moving into our home, my Husband's Grandparents gave us these prints that had adorned their walls for years. My Grandparents had the same exact ones so they were welcomed into our home with a warm comforting feeling. I dug out the hammer and nails to hang them and realized...
I had no where to hang them. Our home was already too full of art (or was the wrong scale to be in the same area with these) and I was unsure as to where to give them a home. So I headed to the kitchen and made myself a cup of tea.
Upon exiting the kitchen I happened to look up.
That was it. The spot I had been looking for. A spot in my home that I had always taken for granted and never looked up at... above the doorway exiting the kitchen headed into the dining room and living room.
I immediately hung the pieces and smile at them each and every time I pass under them. They are in a home full of prints, paintings, photographs and toys from tons of different modern/independent/low brow artists that have crossed the path of my husband and I, but yet they blend right in. They feel as though they should, warm and comforting instead of kitchy and funny.
Art doesn't have to be something found in a museum or bought from one, it can come from your Grandparents basement or attic!

I'd love a better shot of the pieces in the space!

I worked in a bakery during undergrad school, and a copy of the old man praying was in our break room. Have always had a soft spot for it since.

This is the painting I inherited from my grandmother (she painted it!). All the artwork in Granny's house, she did herself, and there are several other pieces that I inherited when she died, but which I don't have up because of space, or because my dad got first dibs. :)

Well, my inherited art is a bit different - it's this paint-by-numbers picture my mother did - when she was pregnant with me!

My parents have the one of man praying in their dining room. It's fairly large and I always liked it because it looks like my grandfather.

I'd rather poke my eyes out than see these everyday.

A family friend had the guy one, and it always creeped me out! As a child, I just didn't understand it.

I have two framed watercolors of Venice that I adopted after my great grandparents passed away. They are always the first to be hung up when we move into a new home, and the last to come down when we move out. I am adding to them, and buying charcoal sketches of Venice (also purchased off of the streets in Italy) so that I can pass the 'set' down to my children's children too :)
