Look!: AT:LA's Gregory Han in ReadyMade Magazine

There are some things you still can't get online...like this fab article in the Oct/Nov "Small Spaces" issue of ReadyMade magazine: The Little League, featuring AT:LA's editor Gregory Han. The first of three small-space homes (in LA, NYC, and Oakland...hmmm, where's Chicago?), Gregory and Emily have created the most colorful, personal, fun, organized, and welcoming space. Can we come over?

Who: Emily Ho, 28 and Gregory Han, 31, two cats, and one beta fish
What: 639 sq/ft apartment
Where: Los Angeles (in the historic Silver Lake neighborhood)
Design Aesthetic: Toybox modern. Eames meets Miyazaki.

Resources: "Ho and Han pooled their collective design sensibilities to make over the apartment, drawing color cues from toys, retro fabris, vintage Avon bath and body packaging, and various illustrations, prints, and graphic novels. They also downsized by giving stuff away, which reduced their possessions by a liberating 25 percent, they say. When they are in the market for more worldly goods, Ho and Han look to the following vendors":

eBay
Craigslist
Target
Ikea
Garage sales
Apartment Therapy
As Seen on TV products

(Congrats, Emily and Gregory! Thanks for letting us in...)

I'm falling in love with the sideboard/table between the speakers on the opening page. We're looking for something similar for our turntables. Can anyone source it?

Shannon - I think it's a vintage Bang & Olufsen hi-fi cabinet.

Cool! Did you paint the bathroom (since the Small Cool Contest)? I remember loving that shelf wall treatment. And I haven't seen your place on SSBS yet -- wasn't it coming up?

Heather: Thank you for the kind post! You're always welcome to come on over :)

pbphoenix: Since the smallest, coolest contest we've only painted around the tub. Are you referring to the scan lines showing up in the photos above? We're supposedly marked to be on SSBS on episode #402, so I'm guessing the next season?

shannon: Erin T is correct in identifying the original rosewood B&O stereo component cabinet. You can occasionally find them on eBay (I've seen them only twice). It's my prized online find :)

I love all the colors they've used. And all the little nooks look so cozy! Lovely!

First, I love the house. It has a nice fresh feel.

I have been seeing quite a few bedrooms similar to this one, where the bed extends all the way to the walls. My bedroom is very small, and I have to have my queen size bed up against one of the walls. It makes it a little difficult to make the bed, especially when I change the sheets! The one above must be double the work! Any tricks to making this kind of bed easier to make?

I love the yellow paint and the blue/grey in the bedroom. Can you reveal the paint colors?

Kudos on such a beautiful and compact pad!

Hey, is that suppose to be a plasma or LCD TV in the first picture, it's cool that they replace it with a clock and a mirror to reflect yourself, and watching who's behind you.

I need help on the same thing as Kate in Maine. My bedroom is wall to wall bed and making the bed is way too complicated and usually ends up with me sprawled out on the bed trying to get the sheets over the corners, after which I'm always tempted to just take a nap. Plus, the door to my backyard is through my bedroom so if anything's going on in my backyard everyone sees my messy bed.

LOVE IT! Yay for Greg and Em! Your home is so amazing...

The place has a warmth to it that I can't even put into words.

Kate & Rebecca: I recommend getting a platform bed frame, since moving a single topping mattress is much easier than the traditional 2-3 piece setup. We also tend to use layers of thinner, less fluffed up bedding (silk comforters are actually fantastic at retaining heat even with less apparent filling) to make it easier to make the beds.

Tara: We used a combo of Behr and Benjamin Moore brand paints (the B. Moore is so much better); I'll have to look back to find exactly which paint mixture we used from their swatch books.

yima: that's actually an old vintage mirror-clock with shelves. But it's been actually replaced recently with a flat screen as shown here:

This is by far one of the coolest homes I've seen. Love the fresh colors, and how the space is just so fun and creative. I especially love the print above the office desk and in the living room. Can you tell me the names of the art and where you bought them from?

Thanks!
