A Reluctant Roundup: Gaming Chairs

game121208.jpgWith multiple systems and a game-loving family, gaming is simply a part of life at home. BUT...we definitely have never felt the need to purchase special seating for game time and honestly, don't plan to. Even though we've never considered it, they must sell - there is quite a large section of these special seats on the Target site . Jump below to see a selection and let us know...are we really missing out by simply sitting on the sofa? They MUST have something going for them because we don't think anyone is purchasing these chairs as a stylish addition to the living room...

These are so hideous that I would seriously break up with my partner if he brought one home. I would sooner put a filthy litter box in the center of my living room before I'd let any of those through the front door.

Yes, you MUST have one of these... right next to your bikini-babe-beer poster. It really ties together the potato chip crumbs, pizza boxes, soda cans and scattered copies of Maxim magazine...

These should go along with this article: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/la/entertaining/top-5-essentials-that-a-guy-should-havewhen-hes-trying-to-impress-a-woman-071677 as things NOT to have in your apartment!

Girls play video games too. The chairs are ugly, but so is being all stooped and deformed from sitting weirdly while playing video games.

I'm a HUGE computer gamer (WoW etc...) AND I worked for a role playing game publisher for 10 years AND I'm a girl and I think those chairs are hideous. What's wrong with the couch or a nice lounge chair for when you're playing console games?

Is it just me or does one of those chairs look...well...phallic?

The post by judes gave me my first good laugh of the day...and it's 2:30 ET. Hideous...these will be clean-up week cliches in a few years.

Does anyone still wonder why Americans are so out of shape?

These are hideous.

Amazing - In one post, the OP has managed to capture the ultimate collection of needless, wasteful, toxic, Made-in-China, future-landfill crapola...

"Indescribable: E1000 Gaming Chair, $449.99"

corruptsuperspy: totally. Now there is some serious phallic imagery.

If you think any of these are phallic, y'all must have weird penises.

The best way to avoid messing up your back from sitting in an awkward position while playing video games is to simply play a little less.
These are ugly but I doubt anyone who owns one of these has guests over very much anyway.

Back in college, I'd see similar chairs being sold at Walmart to college kids... the difference is, these chairs were more like $20-35 dollars versus $449. I can forgive it because, these are college kids who want cheap furniture that they can easily trash without fear of ruining something 'special'. The only adult I would assume to have one of these would have to be like Steve Carell in 40 Year Old Virgin (and to the 3 people out there who haven't seen the movie, he plays the title character). And I agree... they are hideous.

I don't think those old-school college chairs were wired for sound or Playstation, though, were they?

If you need a chair that looks like one of those specially for gaming there is something seriously wrong with your life...

No wonder why obesity is at an all time high with American youth.

I play a lot of games and just bought an Eames LCW chair. It sits low and forces you to lean back, plus it looks stylish. You can buy knockoffs for relatively cheap too. The chairs posted here are just tragic.

The phallic-looking chair has multiple views (go to the site) and it seems that the view shown here was chosen specifically to make it appear far more like phallic than it actually does. The front view doesn't make it look anymore attractive, but it doesn't look so much like body parts from that view.

As an aside, it's ironic seeing all the design snobs talk about other people not having lives and needing better priorities. Gamers are no different than you. They just focus on a different trivial matter than you do.

It's doubly ironic to hear people comment about wasted materials or junk made in China when they'll repaint, replace, and remodel at the drop of a hat for purely aesthetic reasons. Pot, meet the kettle. It may surprise you to learn that you're both black.
