Cool Techy Thing: Slingbox

2007-01-08-slingbox.gifIn the latest issue of Time Out Chicago we saw a quick write up on the Slingbox.

The box essentially loads your TV/Tivo/On Demand content to the internet for you to play back, control and watch anywhere. Examples from the Slingbox site: tune in to a cooking show on a laptop in your kitchen, catch the local news on your phone while travelling far from home or watch golf (?!) while at work...

2007-01-08-slingbox2.gifNow we do more than fine with one (old, black, boxy Sony) TV, and have never felt the need or wanted to take up the space (or spend the money) for sets in other parts of the apartment. That said, we do like the idea that people who would potentially purchase multiple sets would instead be able to view shows from other digital devices that they already own, like laptops, web enabled phones or their pc. One less big item to buy, set up, store and eventually get rid of...

2007-01-08-slingbox3.gifWe applaud devices that increase flexibility without taking up lots of space. A bonus: there are no service fees, so the cost is one-time. There are three types of slingboxes, ranging from $179.99 to 249.99.

Just got a Slingbox hooked up to a DVR for my brother so he can watch his shows while he's studying abroad in Europe- how cool is that?!
