Over at Living Etc., the reader of the month for February '09 shows off his (or her?) gorgeous Georgian overhaul. First up is the bathroom, complete with an awe-inspiring black fireplace, sleek candlesticks, free-standing tub, and ceiling suspended decor.
The homeowner writes:
After a 2 year love/hate affair with my house, it is finally finished. Living Etc has a lot to answer for - I half wish I had never heard of this magazine, as it has cost me far more time and money to finish this house. But saying that if you love a look and have a lot of patience, it can be done.
I hope you like the look.

What we like:
The open floor plan, cool neutrals, glass doors

What we like:
Those floors!! more cool neutrals, black fireplace that matches the one in bathroom

beautiful place.. that sofa looks slightly out of place in that room.. they might need some chairs/rug/coffee table.
Living, etc. is the best mag., handds down. Elle Decor and Met Home should take note .

I adore the antler piece in the bathroom. There was a similar one on ebay recently -- it was a standing piece over 5' tall. It went for over $1000.

The bathroom... those fireplaces... that velvety sofa... ohhhhh.my.gawd. It's like I just died and went to my sultry Georgian heaven. *sigh*
That being said, I can't help but be disappointed in that middle "kitchen/diningroom" picture. It has little of the elegance and graceful arrangement that the other areas have- and what is with those PB-ish dressers at such odd angles (even overlapping each other)?

I like it, except for the sofa facing a blank wall with nothing else going on in the room.

beautiful, but... that sofa is too big for the room, and looks odd just pointed at the wall...
(agree about the "dressers" in the kitchen-diner)

p.s., that kitchen floor is to die for... the parlour floor too... absolutely stunningly gorgeous renovation!!

how do I get a claw-foot tub if I already have a set in bathtub?

Creativegirl: You don't without a contractor and a lot of stress.
And, know what you're getting into with a clawfoot tub. I've had two different apartments with a freestanding tub, and it's a love-hate relationship for me. The aesthete in me has a major crush on how gorgeous it looks, but showering in it everyday is a horrible ordeal. Mine has a smaller interior than most tubs, so it's not comfortable to stand in because of the sloping sides. And no matter how heavy and thick my shower curtains are, they always bunch up at weird places and billow in against you when you shower- really, really gross.
I would not recommend sacrificing a spacious and low-maintenance tub unless you ONLY take baths.
