Black on Black Bedroom?

2008-02-16-allblackbedroom.jpgBo Concept has this black on black bedroom in their inspiration gallery. Charcoal walls, big black hanging pendants, black stained oak furniture, black duvet and a black woven cord chair...that's a LOT of noir. What do you think of this look?

We think it works here, mainly because of the glorious break of the white background patterned wallpaper and the mix of textures. The shiny duvet next to the wood, next to the rustic woven chair really helps break it up.

That said, this seems like it would be a very hard look to pull off at home - we'd love to see more examples, so if you used lots of black in the bedroom, take a pic and send it on in...

Pieces featured in the photo:
1. $1,499 Bed, black-stained oak veneer/leather look Queen size. [Beds - AA30]

2. $699 Nightstand, black-stained oak veneer. [Volani - VO38]

3. $529 Hopper chair, brushed steel/black woven cord. [Chairs - 7500]

Chic in a photo, but a bit too Morticia Addams for real life.

it'd be very fun in the night and a bummer in the morning, i think!

It looks like James Bond's bedroom and, as that, it works, but I'd love to see something along these lines in the bedroom of a 'normal person.'

It definitely makes for a rather fetching showcase, but not ideal for everyday life. I would be chronically depressed facing such dismal decor. Plus, I would surely be obsessively cleaning every speck of stray fiber from those black surfaces.

This looks like it belongs in a bachelor pad. A wealthy 40 yr. old bachelor who made a lot of money but never had time to get married, so he hired a fancy decorator to turn his blah pad into a swinging one.

See, I think this concept could really work, and the execution is off. There's not enough hues of black here, and texture. Not loving the photo, don't hate the idea.

Um, some of us wealthy 40 year old "bachelors" decorate our own swanky pads, thank you very much. ;)

Everything works for me but the wallpaper.

i like the look.. but i dont think that i would ever have the balls to pull it off.. maybe that is why i am not a bachelor? haha... i love the photo but just not 'fun' (for lack of a better word) enough for me.. or maybe casual.. i dont know.. our room is never perfect.. at least one shirt here or there but it still seems to work..
ok.. my take

I find that almost all of Bo Concept's designs are cold. However I have no objection to the fact that they market their products toward men as much as West Elm caters to women.

The wallpaper looks eerily like 1970s laminate wall panels, the kind that show up in cheap bathroom remodels.

As for the concept as a whole... there's one floor plan in our complex (not the one we have) where the bedroom gets no natural light at all because it's essentially an alcove off the living room with no windows. THAT kind of space might be a real win with all-black decor because it's not going to look bright and sunny no matter what you do, so you might as well embrace the dark side and go for drama.

I like it, but I don't think I'm cool enough nor do I have the cajones to pull this look off. I would think that the person who slept there was some James Bond character or some evil ice-queen corporate woman.

Um, West Elm caters to women? Did I miss a memo?

I normally LOVE black rooms. This may be the first I've seen that doesn't do it for me.

I love the look, but with black you have to be careful, the lighting is very important for this look.

I like it. Although, I'd much rather see a nice piece of modern artwork behind the bed in place of the wallpaper. And one tiny splash of colour elsewhere in the room, maybe a small vase of red or yellow flowers.

I've got to tell you, as luxurious as it may look, it's a little creepy to roll up to a dark bedroom like this...like, S&M creepy....

I think it's sexy... but having black sheets is a PAIN. They look instantly dirty for some reason, and collect lint and dust like no other. I love Bo Concept-stuff. But that could be because I'm a cold scandinavian :D
