Preppy Bedding

12-17-07preppybedding.jpg

We stumbled across this image from Elle Interior: Sweden and it reminded us of the 80's preppy/girly look...like if your bed belonged to a sorority. The bedding is from international retailer Gant Home. We could do without the giant Gant logo on the blankets, but the argyle pillow and mix of patterns are cool. Here's how we'd create the look at home...

• Use an accent pillow (like the argyle one shown) to determine the colors you'll choose for your bedding.
• Mix preppy patterns in the same color family: stripes, checks, plaids, etc.
• Mix textures: cotton sheets, ribbed wool blankets.
• Use both vertical and horizontal stripes in varying widths.
• Layer the bed with sheets, duvet, and blankets.
• Layer the headboard with a few pillows.

We're not sure if we're totally off in thinking this look is cool. What do you say?

It's definitely cool! Classic menswear textiles like argyles and stripes NEVER are out of style!

I've been thinking of going to a menswear pinstripe bedding with argyle pillows for a while now... I think it'd look great with a navy color base mixed with class camel.

I think I now know what to do with a favorite, yet never-worn, argyle sweater of my husband's. Snip, sew, pillow cover!

the gant blankets are rough, especially with all the pink, but i love the overall look. i have seersucker sheets (sounds weird i know, but with a high thread count they're heaven) so an argyle pillow might be over the top but something to definitely keep in mind for a future room. also, magbot, i'm totally stealing your navy and camel color combination; why do i never think to use my favorite colors to wear in my decor?
