Silk Sheets from Kumi Kookoon

072507kumikookoon.jpgWe saw this colorful stack of silk sheets during a recent flip through Elle magazine (the fashion Elle, not the home decor Elle - but there's always a little something for the home in the former!).

Silk sheets from Kumi Kookoon were the reason we marked the page. We immediately wondered, "Who sleeps on silk sheets?" because we don't and never have.

Although considered a luxury, we'd be sure to miss our comforting cottons and ease of cleaning; Kumi Kookoon says dry clean only. No way, for us.

So, any feedback on silk sheets? Ever worth the splurge?

Prices from Kumi Kookoon start at $250 for a twin flat sheet. See the extended list here.

I have some Kumi Kookoon Sheets and I was them on gentle with Woolite and they are fine. I've never had a problem with them. I wouldn't reccomend washing them on normal though or with anything other than woolite.

Please don't take this the wrong way. I love the content on this website, love your links and everything. But its really difficult to read people writing in the first person plural, and you do it way too much. Please, just use I or write from a neutral p-o-v. For instance, saying "who sleeps on silk sheets?" would make the point.... you don't need the "we wondered... because we never do." This is the same reason I can't stand the gapers block blog.

As for the silk bet sheets. Don't know, never had them myself.

A friend once warned me to never buy silk sheets because it will ruin you for all other sheets and you'll never be able to sleep on anything else. They were quite serious. My curiousity only worsened afterwards.

I like the way the posts are written-it's informal, almost like a friend passing along a bit of info. It's not difficult to read at all, and makes perfect sense because each post is signed by the author.

My husband and I received a set of mid-weight silk charmeuse sheets as a wedding present. I wouldn't have splurged on a set myself but they are quite lovely.

I wash them in the washing machine with a mild detergent and dry them in the dryer on a low temperature setting. Then I make the bed while the sheets are still slightly damp. This takes most of the wrinkles out of them.

I wouldn't say it's ruined us for all other sheets though.

Hi Fatoosh and pelicolina:
All AT sites have always used "we"...it's how we maintain a wider editorial voice along with a personal "friend passing along a bit of info" as you described it, pelicolina.

as always, thanks for the thoughts and feedback.

I love my (west elm) bamboo sheets way too much to even consider silk.

I don't like the shinyness or slipperyness of silk sheets -- they tend to untuck and travel their own way. If you're a restless sort, expect to awaken in a silk cocoon of your own once in a while.

Maybe that's the full circle of things: after all, the poor silkworms in their cocoons are boiled are gassed alive to get the silk. Karma demands the silk wind itself around the next user.

Why must BBH (See OrangePatty's comment - I'm not spelling it out) resort to this type of ridiculous free advertising. It's just obnoxious. It's pretty simple to detect a scheme when you click on the name and see that all of their posts contain the nefarious link. OrangePatty is only up to two posts now, but past trends indicate we can expect more BBH shoved at us.

One Eyed Daruma - I agree with you. Advertising everywhere is being shoved in our face. If people stop watching tv and only blogged - you'd have them pouring money on the web. Sometimes AT feels like an off-shoot of DWR...

oddly, my coworkers and i just had this conversation a few minutes ago, about silk sheets.
ethan swears by them, and the rest of us just stood there frowning sort of skeptically.

Hi~
I have slept in silk sheets, and though they look very nice before you sleep on them. I don't like the silky feel, or the way they look in the morning.. a total mess...
Cotton a thousand times.

Don't they get mighty, ahem, stained, after certain activities?

I have those sheets and absolutely love them! I was working with some silk charmeuse and was so enraptured by the feel of it that I did my research and found this bedding.

I was a cotton girl before but don't know if I could go back. They're not all that slick so slipping isn't a huge problem, they're not that cheap-satiny-shiny, they feel wonderful, and don't stain like you would think;) If you're curious, the place I got 'em sent out samples of different silks and it was obvious these were the best, quality-wise. I have a total thing for the feel of fabrics like velvet and silk...these make getting in bed heavenly!

BTW, I came across this post googling out of curiosity...just confirmed that these sheets (and bedding) are the ones used in Blair Waldorf's room on Gossip Girl.
