For Christmas, we got a Bed, Bath & Beyond gift card. Having never bought a thing there (and probably only in the store once, which we can't quite recollect), we'd like to hear from you the pluses and minuses of any products. What are the store's strengths? What should we stay away from? We hit up Janel's Top Ten from last year, and also found a few potentially good buys below. Please chime in with thoughts on BB&B!

a hair-catcher for the shower drain. I know, it sounds frivolous, but it's the most useful thing I've gotten from BBB so far! It comes in a 2pack and is washable/machine washable.

We bought our Dyson from there with their 20% coupon- make sure you use one, or one for every item, and they don't mind if they've been expired for a year.

I've only ever found one thing at BB&B that was special enough to pay more for it. I may be wrong, but I always feel they are more expensive for things I would buy at Target.
The coupon is a necessity. Some BB&Bs will take Linens N Things coupons (it depends on the competition in your area.)
In my home town in NC, they won't take the expired coupons and it is the same here in Portland, but they do in the DC area. Competition?

the best thing about BBB (other than the stock), is that they give you cash back for everything including a gift card. You can hand them the card and ask for the cash instead.

I know they will take expired BBnB coupons at LNT in the DC area, but I've never used more than one coupon at BBnB, because LNT always had stuff cheaper.

I think BB&B is good for basic stuff. My friends and family shop there a lot so I was not surprised to get a BB&B gift certifcate for Christmas too. I got a Jonathan Adler bedskirt on clearance for under $25.

I have to agree with Anna, the Dyson has changed my life!
The only other thing I buy there is the "As Seen on TV" foot cream for my dad for a joke in his Xmas stocking. They have a lot of useful goods like hair appliances, shower curtain liners, bathroom accessories, candles, kitchen utensils and I believe appliances. They also have some nice fluffy towels and nice duvets.
Whenever I think of it, I always think of ANthony on "Sex and the City" - "Sorry hon, 50 calls from my mother making sure I find the cheapest sheets at Bed, Bath, and Frickin' Beyond!" Cracks me up every time!

I would stay away from the bed linens, they are very ugly and pricey. I found those great magnetic ss spice holders there, which I think are a great space saver. Sometimes you can find odds and ends of their fancy dishes on their sales rack. Some of these dishes are quite nice.

I prefer the gun store on The Simpsons: Bloodbath and Beyond.

We got $100 off our Dyson w/their 20% off coupon, and with Christmas cash and a gift card there, only had to pay $40 of our own money for it. We also bought some heavenly bamboo sheets there. They also carry some nice lines of small appliances. Don't let the ugly, bix box organization (and cheap candle scent) fool you - they carry some nice products.

Booze Carousal for $30.00. My husband LOVES his (as does every male who sees it)!!! Best thing I ever bought at BB&B.

I love their Pure Beech Sateen sheets. They're super soft and stay cool all night long.

I love the BB&B on 6th Ave. They have a huge variety of stuff. Great for picture frames, kitchen stuff, and they have a drug store section so I don't have to deal with the ordeal of Rite Aid (always one cashier and in a state of restocking whenever I go there.) And the cafe food is really good too.
The best thing I got there was a dish drain mat. I had been to Kmart (cause sadly Target is way too far) and they only had cream and country blue for like $9. So then I checked BB&B and they had them in a bizillion colors for like $3 or $4.

Be warned: the coupon includes (in fine print at the bottom) the lines you can't use it for, which include Dyson. (That's not to say that an inattentive casher doesn't sometimes put one through on such a purchase...) And yes, they don't care if the coupon is expired ... the best thing I ever found out! But I've never heard of them giving cash back for a gift card or store credit ... every single purchase, no matter how small, is deducted from the card (or credited to it, if you return something purchased with one)!

They have a great return policy. I once returned an unassembled wood/canvas wardrobe without the box or any other packaging and got full store credit, no questions asked. Can't beat that! Oh, and I bought my Miele there using a LNT coupon for 20% off because the fine print of the BBB coupons say it cant be used on Miele.

I find that I live at Bed Bath & Beyond ever since I moved to my new apartment. It’s the first time I’m living alone so I basically need to buy everything.
My best find so far? I was looking for a classic set of flatware but I also needed a creative storage solution for it since my tiny kitchen has no drawers. I found this great set that comes with a stand:

BB&B is also good for towels, bath rugs, shower curtain liners…I found they also have a beautiful selection of printed-paper napkins (for cocktail parties, or, I use them as guest hand towels for the bathroom—I found a great chocolate-brown damask print).
Their “Hotel” collection is also nice; classic, great quality, if not a bit pricey. The 20% off coupons definitely help.
Excellent selection of kitchen gadgets; vegetable peelers, ice scream scoop-type stuff.
I don’t know if all the Bed Baths have this but the one in NYC has a great drug store section where I get my shampoo, contact solution, etc.

20% discount can be applied toward expensive fancy cookware sets at bb&b. They also have an extensive travel-size toiletry collection.

I was told that they're required to print those coupon restrictions by the companies (Dyson, Henckels, etc.), but I've yet to be refused the discount on any of the brands. I too got my Dyson there, a Jonathan Adler duvet, Silpats, miscellaneous gadgets. They also have $5 off coupons, which is be a better deal if you're buying something that's under $25.

I bought an Electrolux Pronto (featured here once) at BB&B, but I'm never a fan of much else thought I do have to wander through every six month or so to remind myself that. I guess if you have free $$, go for some good solid color sheets.

I love BB&B. They're the best for basics. I was just complaining that there isn't a BB&B near me now that I've moved.

I shop there a lot. And they have great sale/clearance prices.
Lamps, shades, hardware, curtains, dishes, bath items, drain catchers. It is all very good and useful.

Beech sheets! Best.

I like them for buying basic items.... Kitchen tools, cutting boards, food storage (my new favorites are Snapware Snap N Locks). They also carry alot of drugstore items, and they have the color of Loreal Feria I prefer, which no one else seems to carry anymore. They take the coupons on anything, and I seem to get at least one coupon a week. I wait until I get a bunch, haul them all over there, and stock up.

Just get the cash - BB&B is so overpriced for similar things at Target and other discount outlets. I always find myself so mad when ever I go into one, thinking that I going to find what I am looking for at a resonable price.

Simplehuman makes the best garbage cans..love ours. I like BB&B...they have a little of everything house wise...but it isn't my favorite place to shop by any means.
view Sara_Hew's profile
They have those great chilewich type runner rugs (not sure if they are that brand or not).
view Marbargarbo's profile
I like the Simplehuman cans too. My favorite thing at BB&B is the lamp dimmer switch. For $20, you can have a dimmer on your bedside lamp. A very useful thing in my family.

I say swap it for another gift card. There is a site where you can do this. Google giftcard swap.

Honestly, they are simplay an overpriced store. You can find a dimmer at IKEA for under $10.

Things are expensive, but they're great with returns (even someone bought it for you somewhere else) if they sell it, they'll take it back without a receipt for in-store credit. This makes them great for weddings when you always get 2 or 3 of the same thing.
A friend of mine got married last summer, and was moving across the country, so she registered at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, took all the shower and wedding gifts back and now has an impressive line of in-store credit. She just goes to BBB when she needs something for the house. Hasn't had to pay a dime yet.

bamboo sheets, mmmm.

Seems like I'm the only one who HATES BBB. But I do. It's crowded, hard to find things, never has what I want, and I always end up asking someone who works there, "How do I get out of here?"

I live in NYC and honestly I would love to go to Target for the smaller things however the closest Targets near me (on Queens BLVD or in Whitestone) are the biggest dumps ever. (I used to school in Buffalo and the Target there was a dream). You can never find what you are looking for.. they are also ALWAYS crowded which makes the experience worse. For convenience I go to BBB near my office on 6th ave to buy smaller things (with their $5 off coupons). Near home, 2 BBBs are a short drive away and their regular 20% off coupons makes purchasing those big items more attractive. Many of my "would be expensive" kitchen appliances and tools were all bought at BBB with the 20% coupon. It's a great one stop shopping place if you know what to spend your money on. For small hardware items it's usually cheaper and easier to pick them up at your local hardware store or Home Depot. Most BBB I've been to have a Home Depot in the same complex!

Another Beech Sheet vote. Jersey for me.

Jane- we read the small print before we went to the Dyson- they won't take the coupon for other brands... I think Hoover
