What's with the bed on the porch in the last pic? That's kind of random.

I really wish I didn't have to click on each picture and be directed to a different page. There must be a better way to display multiple pictures.

Not random ... sleeping porches date back about a hundred years in the south!

Ooooh, blanket covering the entire comforter. I'm gonna have to find myself a pretty blanket and steal that idea. I'm tired of sleeping in a nest of cat fur every night. :/

Would I love to sleep on that porch? Hell yes, I would.

Just a little question for everyone, I love these looks but they're quite coordinated. Isnt it a little restricting in terms of colour etc if you want to change your doona cover??

i'm still trying to figure out a solution for my bed. no headboard, and the top of the bed needs to sit a foot away from the wall due to a heating/cooling duct. i can't prop pillows up, so i can only really have one pillow on display, flat. really limits my decorations options. it's driving me crazy.

Lanni!: A low bed with a zen-like feel would help. 4 regular pillows, laying flat 2x2 at the head of the bed (or just two stacked for a single bed), crisp light sheets, solid colored duvet cover, and maybe a punch of color in a throw and the shams of the bottom color. I would personally do cream sheets, soft brown duvet cover, and pillow shams in chartreuse raw silk, with a chartreuse natural, unevenly spun wool throw.
Yes, I have had this in my mind for years.

Another option is to have the side of the bed against the wall, and set it up like a day bed. I currently switch between the two methods with a purple-grey duvet cover and a single silvery throw pillow. The trick when you can't put your bed against the wall and don't have a headboard is simplicity. I use the walls of my bedroom as supports for large canvases, so I often move my bed to get more wall space. I also have space heaters, so the easiest wall for me to have it against is not available.

I think the main thing to think of in decorating a bed, is to balance the genders. In other words ladies, ask a practical, no nonsense man to make your bed. Use no more than one pillow more than he does. Men, get a woman in your life to add some color if your color vocabulary does not exceed the basic rainbow colors.

The pillows on our bed are set up like the eighth picture the most - but we have a headboard and one throw pillow in front, the blanket is just like the one in the third picture, and we have a throw across the bed somewhat like the seventh. The difference is it's just spread across the bed longways (if I was under the covers, it would hit just above my waist)...on a cold night, it gets left there.

LOL - so I guess I fit a combination of styles.

I have such a thing for bedding. This post just stole my heart. Especially the first picture! The color! The pattern! The fun! Love it.

Very nice post, good variety in the pictures.

It would be interesting to see some actual before-and-after shots of how bedding changes improve a room - does anyone have any? Or know any links?

Like the asymmetric arrangement of throw blankets in bottom photo, second from left.

Would love to sleep on that porch bed overlooking the ocean. Dreamy and beautiful setting.

I don't get it. I've got 4 different sets of bedding already and I change them every week. And I still think I need more.

I have to push my bed in the corner. I've moved countless times and most the time the bed has to go in the corner so I can walk into my bedroom. I'd love to see solutions on that.
I have a shelving system instead of a headboard where I can put my lamp, books, alarm clock on, but I'd love some more ideas.

Also I want to sleep on that porch.

I like nearly all the examples, suggesting my design style is too eclectic!

However, when I see the porch, all I think of is rain. Soggy bedding. Mildew. I have never lived (or stayed) anywhere where this wouldn't be a threat, and the mess would be nasty. (Quick drying hammocks, might work...)

I'm pleased to see that several of these pictures have only one or two pillows per person... I never liked this trend of having six rows of pillows in various shapes and sizes on the bed. I often stay in hotels and 95% of the time you have to do a big clearance before you can rest your weary head... and then the room/ couch is full of dozens of useless pillows. What's the point... I never lounge on my bed so I restrict myself to what is necessary. And who has the time to make those beds every day with all their cushions and decorative blankets and throws?

Sorry, just my little pet peeve!

Erm, balance the genders? All women like colour? All men are practical and no nonsense? I can think of a number of friend's bedrooms, nay apartments and fashion senses that would suggest otherwise.

I believe that spaces should be decorated for those who live in them. As a creative, high energy woman I need a calm, lesser-stimulating environment for my downtime. Thus, the palette of my entire apartment is similar to The Olde Bell Inn. It's a subtle, warm place due to natural materials, varied textures, and plant life. There is also a lot of natural light that comes with a view. I prefer my colour to come from the friends and activities that fill my space.

In my world, blankets are for texture and warmth on beds and couches, not statements.

I don't think anyone needs to balance genders if they just use common sense. Most people need no more than two pillows apiece and even if you like a decorative pillow on each side, anything more than six pillows starts to get obsessive.

I agree with greyscale - blankets are for warmth, not statements. Whatever is on the bed deals more with how much warmth I am going to need (like thin blanket in summer, comforter in spring and fall, and probably both in winter). It's a bed - you should be able to get in it without spending 10 minutes trying to reorganizing your room to deal with the excessive pillows.

I like the one on the porch the best. Take away the duvet though and it's total W.T.

If I could have stuck my bed out on patio last night... I would have. That porch looks so relaxing. Cool, clean and simple.

I currently have a very bright color scheme going on - a rainbow duvet cover, and a red dresser. The only muted tones are the cool blue-gray walls, and the light oak colored headboard and night stands. Lately I feel like it's just too stimulating, and I'd prefer a calmer, lighter scheme. My dream is to do it all in white, but with a 80 pound labrador and two cats, it would just be too much maintenance as far as keeping it clean; we'd be better off with a pattern (yes, they all sleep at the foot of the bed, and we like it that way). I've been looking like crazy everywhere for a calm, soothing, patterned duvet cover - anyone have suggestions?

The bed on the porch is like a dream I wish I had a huge terrace so I could do that and literally sleep under the stars.
