We've posted tons of DIY bedroom ideas on Apartment Therapy before, from painted to tufted headboards. One of the things that attracts us to projects like these is the colorful backdrop they bring to rooms that are often painted in more soothing hues...
The photos above show a mix of beds with and without headboards, but in every case, the wall behind the bed helps to focus the eye on the bed itself. Through specific use of color (and sometimes pattern), these rooms anchor the bed against the wall, creating a sense of balance and symmetry.

We have a very deep brown on our headboard wall like Lane's apt. (sienna from Benjamin Moore) - we love it. We paired it with a Silver Fox (silver-ish grey) for the rest of the bedroom.
Relaxing colors in the bedroom is important to me...helps me be at ease and fall asleep and wake up more easily.

I JUST finished my bedroom yesterday! We did a similar thing, we painted a headboard on the wall & anchored it with a big Rebel Without a Cause poster. I'm so happy with it! Our bed doesn't have a headboard, but it's sentimental, so we're not getting rid of it anytime soon- this was a great solution.
