Lofts and studio apartment arrangements often leave the bed out in the open. Establishing privacy in this situation is always a design challenge and we love the screened solution in this downtown Kansas City loft...
Loft Bedroom by Black Bamboo

Designed by Black Bamboo, this "bedroom" is seriously just a bed-sized area of the loft that's been partitioned off with beautiful woven screens. The interior is cozy in scale and rich in material. It receives lots of natural light since it's up against an exterior wall, yet it doesn't hog it all from the rest of the loft: partial height screens and an open weave allow light to penetrate into the main loft space.
The privacy is improved over having a bed out in the middle of an open space, yet this still may not be private enough for some. We, however, think it strikes a good balance between privacy and an open, loft-like feeling. See the rest of this project at Black Bamboo.

I love the aesthetic and the screens, but the bedroom space seems too cramped in comparison to the loft space. No privacy without a window treatment, either.

Beautiful project. I would use those walls to create a dining room in a loft.
I had walls like that in my loft when we moved in. We ended up putting in 5" thick walls all the way up to the ceiling with sound insulation! In a brownstone-like floorthru on the second floor in Manhattan, the street noise was too much, even with the bedroom way at the back of the loft. The noise within the loft was problematic, too. If one person wants to stay up and watch TV and have the lights on, it's a nightmare for the person trying to sleep in the bedroom.
After living in a loft for 20 years, I am a firm believer in rooms, unless you live alone.

I like the first picture, neutral well done..but the screens appear to be more red brown in the living room picture where as the close up bedroom picture they are a lovely dark brown.
dandy- once I moved from my loft I was happy to have walls again.. but sometimes I do romanticize having open space because I was more creative back then.

I love that bedroom area! not a fan of the entire space, but the little bednook is really lovely. the settee is really gorgeous.
jacasi & slang4d: it looks as though they have black roller shades which I think would be perfect and simple if you wanted complete privacy at night. but if you're one the second floor or above, you might not need more than that! I appreciate that it's fairly un-cluttered.

I love the store and their design work. However,I'm not a fan of settees in front of beds.
As far as privacy is concerned, the windows appear to have roller shades.
