Squaring Bed by Giuseppe Viganò

This bed reminds us of a 1970s home decor photo we found in an old book and saved to our clip file, but it's actually a design from the 21st century. Created in 2004 by Giuseppe Viganò, the Squaring Bed is an "island" that can be configured as a larger or smaller expanse of upholstery. The quilted fabric that covers the bed and its parts can be removed, and wooden feet lift it off the ground...

Manufactured by Italian company Bonaldo, different models in the Squaring collection range between $3,000 and $7,500, depending on the components and the retailer. You can also purchase it with leather upholstery, and headboard options range from high to low to deep.

This looks like a cheap knock-off of B&B Italia's Tufty Time Bed: http://www.stylepark.com/db-images/cms/bbitalia/img/p258264_488_336-1.jpg

It's hardly cheap.

I like the clean lines of the square beds a lot more than the slumpy tufty time.

Very nice! I love how comfy the edges are. Nowhere to bang your ankles on this bed like some of the low platform beds I've seen. By the way, I gave you a shout out on my blog. I really love it! Thanks for doing such an awesome job. It is inspiring. I especially love how you show affordable ideas anyone can use. Have a great day, FeeFee

Jacksonlalonde - This bed launched a year before Tufty Time hit the market. Furthermore, Urquiola's Tufty Time is "inspired" by a near identical design from the late 60's early 70's. So, unfortunately if anyone was to be called out for a "knock off", it would be Urquiola herself.

weeelll, excuuuse me. However, if you look closely, the bed above is made in pieces, the footer, the rails, the headboards all seem to be made separately and fitted together which makes me wonder how long it will look like it's supposed to (even though the gaps in the upholstery as they are scream at me already). The tufting is anemic, how long before it is just a flat upholstered piece with square stitching? I've used the Tufty Time, it's a solid, well built tough piece of furniture and, in my not so humble opinion puts this thing to shame...

I have always loved these and as shown you need big open space to appreciate them.
These were popular in the 80's as well I remember seeing every version in Abitare and Domus magazines

It is a beautiful design, but could also be a DIY project with a little ingenuity. Then you could custom the size to whatever fits your space.

Well then, I guess my taste is "cheap" because I like it, too.

it reminds me of a paul van dyk video where a bunch of people sitting on a big red couch... don't like it, not at all.

I prefer the Strips Bed By Arflex. It looks super cool and like something a real person would sleep every day.

Ok, clearly some people are able to offer details to support their opinions and other people enjoy being snarky. The bed doesn't suck, but I wouldn't spend that money on something that looks like it can be easily reproduced by West Elm, packed neatly into a box and shipped to your doorstop with a set of allen wrenches.

Did anyone notice that tiny 70's tv with rabbit ears at the corner of the orange bed? so funny!
