Definitely Heritage Trail Antique Mall in Wilmette -- and not just because my mom has a booth there! The Mall has two floors of booths -- all reflecting the varying styles and tastes of the individual booth owners.

The best antique shop in the chicago area is a NEW shop on the North Shore. den in Evanston has sophisticated quality pieces with a definetely modern feel.

The owner is extremely knowledeable, yet approachable. They also specialize in lighting and chandeliers.

Agree with Dave, Scout is fantastic. I always find something unique and interesting there.

julian:
we are certainly not aiming to be silly or to strip anyone of their secrets. while we have been filling our archives with a lot of places for antiques (among other stores), we know there are many well-known, wonderful spots out there. our community is all about sharing that information.

this poll is our way of finding out what the AT: Chicago community thinks of it all, and a place for everyone who is interested to share their ideas with others. Look at all the thrift store suggestions on AT:NY!

we run the Best of Chicago polls to find new resources and also to recognize well-loved shops and lend them our support.

thanks for all the nominees so far!

Another vote for BAM & Edgewater Antique Mall.

BAM for the second floor drool factor & also drool-worthy case of rare Bakelite, Edgewater for their reasonable prices & friendly people.

Oh relax... I'm just poking fun...

Of course I frequest BAM, Ravenswood and Edgewater... There's a tiny little shop on Irving Park across from the Brown line stop called Danger City- they have some nice stuff...

Believe it or not the Salvation Army in Uptown (by the Jewel) sometimes, sometimes has some neat stuff. I also hit up the...oh I forget the name, on Lincoln just next door to Dinkles... Also on Lincoln across from Martyrs is ModLife and another way-too-packed antique shoppe... Actually one could just go up lincoln from Webster to about Western, Broadway from Lawrence up, and of course Belmont west to the highway...

I generally try and stay away from the Antiques and vintage stores as their markup is rediculous...

thanks for the list.

ps. i think the one next to Dinkel's is The Ark.
