Being Eco-Friendly Without Deep Pockets

Don Ferrier (Heather's Dad), got hooked on the idea of building a home that would be not only entirely "green" but also affordable for the average American family.
They worked with passive solar principles to make the hot and heavy sun of Texas into a friend instead of an enemy. Keeping in mind water consumption, a 3,000 gallon tank was installed outside to collect rain water for use in toilets and lawn maintenance. The build was all about keeping things local as cabinets and storage areas were all done in Ash that was harvested within the metro. The house is finished simply and within a budget that might fit most normal families; with purchases coming from Target, Ikea, Sears and Cost Plus World Market.

Growing up in Fort Worth, it helps that land/housing there is inexpensive. Love the house and I am glad to see people from the metroplex caring about the environment!
