We are enjoying the current issue of Domino. We did a post on the featured interiors when it first came out and today we're looking at the content tied to the issue's theme - "Organized Home". The photo above is from the 400 square foot home of Rashida Jones, which got a three part organizational makeover. There is also feature on a "Five Step Clutter Cure" based on combinations of a main storage piece and accessories to target trouble spots. Photos and links below...

Page 57: Three Secrets to a Streamlined Home. The makeover focused on:

1. Efficient floor plan: They created symmetry with a sofa centered between two bookshelves and had the bed positioned with the long side against a wall to make it function more like a day bed.

2. Hidden storage: They used wall to wall drapes to cover both the windows and storage shelves. They also went with the old standard of off season storage in under-bed boxes.

3. Focused color scheme: For the makeover they started with favorite items to set a color palette of blue, magenta and black and white. It was based on a print, an antique rug and pillows. They also unified clashing pieces by painting them white.

Page 63: The 5-Step Clutter Cure was based on "cures" for clutter hot spots in the home. The photo above is the entryway solution, based on a bi-level console with a series of boxes, drawer organizers and hooks. A slideshow of this and other organizing photo ideas is here. Four more solutions (for the bathroom, mail control, bedroom dresser and a prepared suitcase) are included in the print version.

is anyone else depressed by the fact a TV star lives in a studio in NYC?

No. The article states she only lives in NYC part-time.

No. Even if she lived in NYC full-time, there's no law she'd have to rent/buy the largest place she could afford. If you don't have a use for more space, why get involved with heating, cooling, maintaining, and decorating it?

I just realized this floorplan is just like my old place. It was a bit smaller. Even years after moving out, I still try to figure out how I could have done it up better instead of sleeping on a nice futon for six years.
Maybe I'll crack it now.

I'm guessing that first time TV "stars" are not making the money we expect them to.
That, and the NYC rental/real estate market is hideous and obscene.

Even if she weren't on TV, just being Quincy Jones's daughter, you would think she would have a bigger space, but who knows what her LA place looks like.

How come there's no editorial comment on the clutter cures?
Maybe QJ has a policy of making his kids make their own way in life. He's been a father for like 50 years. He scrapped his way up from a teen out on his own, maybe he lets them do a moderate version of that. Like "here's $50K, kid, make it happen."

to get back to the point ... in the top photo, what is that armoire (or bookcase hutch thing) and where can I get it. I am in need of some clutter control solutions in my life!
