Blogging Wired: Best Prefab Houses

Wired just posted a list of their picks for the best "small and fabulous" modular, prefab homes. Our favorite? The Miesian style of the gorgeous (and pricey) structures by Marmol Radziner shown here - followed by the nearly unbelievable perch-like Single Hauz from Poland (just below):

Built for One: 200 sq. foot Single Hauz

Totally Custom: weeStudio from weeHouse/Alchemy Architects. Lots of options to choose from. Sized from 350-660 sq. feet.

Temporary but Cool: Icosa Pods by Sanford Ponder. $2,150 per pod and "snaps together like Legos".

Beach Bungalow: A $100/sq foot vacation home - Versadome.

Rooftop Helicopter Delivery: The Loftcube by Werner Aisslinger.

The Smallest: MD-42 (42 sq. feet) by Edgar Blazona and Brice Gamble. From Modular Dwellings.

MKD (Michelle Kauffmann) is doing some fairly amazing stuff as well in the green/modular space. The mkSolaire is actually designed for a city lot... vs. most of the modular stuff you see sitting in the middle of nowhere. The Museum of Science and Industry is actually BUILDING one of these HERE IN CHICAGO outside the museum this spring. I'll be super excited once these things come down in price.
