Colorful Gold Coast Condo
Chicago Home + Garden

Ultra-luxe, classic, sophisticated and and topped off with color. It's a good lesson to remember - just because a place isn't filled with modern or contemporary pieces doesn't mean that the colors need to be conservative or safe. This highrise condo has hefty doses of strong color - pinks, reds, and both bright and dark blues...

...which add so much to the drama of the home. Dark rosy pink chairs across a navy blue velvet sofa, the gold and turquoise draped bedroom and a red walled library are just a few highlights.

Decorated by Blaine Johnson, it was featured in Chicago Home+Garden and the article and full slideshow are both available online in their archive. Check it out right here.

I do like the choice of color, but the furniture and drapery selections remind me of a hotel... too matchy-matchy.

The roof deck is amazing. I would camp in a tent there while I redecorated the rest.

This is overly designed and the color is disharmonius.

Just goes to show that money does not buy taste. Jacasi is right--the color is "disharmonious." I hated every part of it except the deck and the front hall.

My god, the 60's mafia-long island-plastic slipcover look is back, with a vengeance.

I think a 50 years old lady must live there. That design is so not me. Don't like it at all.

There are some great elements throughout - a sconce here, a chair there, and a beautiful wall color in the bedroom - but as a whole it just doesn't work. Too bad.

If I wanted to look at over the top designs with furniture I can't afford I'll read Elle Decor.

Although this is not a look I strive for in my home, I thought it looked nice. The first one with the mustard drapes and the blue room do kind of look like you're leaving an area where you can still see colors to another dimension where your cones mostly don't work anymore. Not harmonious, that's subjective - most people would love these examples of colors together if there were more craigslist and funky restored junk IKEA bohemian eclectic grandma's fake attic (Anthropologie) feel to it.

Photo #1 shows far too much matchitude.

I could have stood this if it didn't have have to have to pair such a pretty shade of blue with that ugly mustard yellow color. If they wanted to do yellow, there were much better shades to choose from. More importantly, the drapes separating the two rooms would have looked much better in lighter fabrics.

Ugly! The colors are just awful and it's too matchy.
