Domino Decorating Contest: Readers' Choice Winner

2008-01-28-dominoreaderschoice.jpg
Domino crowned a winner of their Decorating Contest back in November, but just recently named the Readers' Choice winner: Lara, a photographer from Atlanta, Georgia. She says, "I love whimsy. I love color. I love vintage design. And at heart, I am a hunter. I love finding some discarded treasure, whether it be at a flea market, estate sale or eBay". Click below for more of Lara's home....

Lovely place, but I was surprised it won. Domino rooms are usually so brand-new-from-the-store. How nice to see a space so free of trends.

Well done, but still too yard sale for my tastes.

Your place makes me feel like a little girl visiting my grandma or aunties.

Does anyone know what color wall paint that might be?

i do love the effects the colors make on me (probably because i have a similar carpet with the same color green armchair - the one on the left of top photo) but it looks a tad too '50s stage set' to me.

Beautiful mix of color, and great job arranging everything! I'd expect it to look more cluttered with all those knickknacks, but to my eye it just looks homey.

Even if someone set up my home in a similar manner, I'd never be able to pull it off b/c I hate dusting. :p

I guess I am the only one writing in who is not into "collections" of things everywhere. It is cute for sure, but a bit too filled with "hunted" items . . . Surprised that it won.

I love it! and I am also glad that it's not too Domino-spread-style where everything is ridiculously expensive and designer brand. This is what a real house with real people living in it would look like to me.
(although i agree there may be too many knick knacks for my tastes... which reminds me, maybe i should get rid of some of my knick knacks)

The colour story is really beautiful. Most of the furniture is really beautiful too, but like lucidez777, I think the vignetttes are a bit too staged. But that is a personal preference.

Thanks for the post, no one can be more surprised than I, that I won! It is exciting to see it posted here too! Esp since this is an apartment, I live in a duplex and rent! I am a very happy renter at that, with wonderful landlords. I know my style is not for everyone but I am honored that enough people who read Domino liked it and voted.

Cheers,
Honeywest aka Lara

I love this!!!! It is not "Store bought" like all the rest - It has tons of character, great colors and style!!!!
I can see personality and creativity in this, unlike "monkey see, monkey do" decorating

Very cute, but like so much in Domino, I find this space *way* too aggressively feminine -- I prefer spaces that manage to be cozy while remaining a little more gender-neutral in feel. Can't help but think a husband or boyfriend (not that you need one, of course) would find this room stifling after about ten minutes.
