Domino Decorating Contest Winner

2007-11-21-win.jpg

Catherine from California was crowned the winner of the Domino Decorating Contest. Her master bedroom has great color ...we like how the bright accents turn the powdery blue base into an almost neutral and all of the white with the pale floors are beautiful. Our favorite detail - the stencil on the closets and bed. More photos below:

"As a single mother I waited 17 years to convert two small bedrooms into my large master bedroom. I did all the demo and hired handymen to install the closets, doorways and white floor. I then painted, stenciled, embossed, and/or glazed every inch of wall space and built the gas fireplace surround myself."

"I reinvented a 1960s Hollywood vanity, nightstands, small chandeliers and French chair with paint, decoupage and silver leaf. I made and painted the silk organza curtains. The goal was to create a Parisian-like sanctuary to enjoy after a long working day."

Check out the full announcement on Domino for more photos and info from the winner. Congratulations to Catherine!

Wow.
If I had my own room, I'd do it in a heartbeat. But I think it would make my husband a little uncomfortable.
But I love it. Congrats to Catherine.

A LITTLE uncomfortable?? Um, yeah, I would guess so.

(Insert my normal tirade about Domino being too girly here)

I'm in love. I want that pink chair. It is absolutely beautiful. The bright colors pop without being over powering and the blue looks so soft and relaxing.

Sorry, but this makes the sets for Legally Blonde look positively butch.

So what, Patrick?

Who cares if it's feminine? Is there something inherently wrong with that? I don't get my lacy panties into a twist when I see all those sparse, Mies van der Rohe-worshiping m.c.m. bachelor pads in various trendy shelter magazines where nary a frill is to be found.

The designer is a single mom who designed this place to be a (yes) feminine retreat. I think she did it with great creativity and vision, not to mention a great eye for composition. Great work.

Thanks so much everyone for your wonderful comments. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would win! There is no doubt it is a femine room but men think it is pretty "wow". They love lounging on that chaise and watching sports on my $600 flat screen TV from Sears (TV is on a stainless bathroom rolling shelf I found at Bed bath beyond for 35 bucks). Of course I did not put the TV in the pics! Thanks again!

I love this, however I think that vanity is from the 30's. My Gran had one. I love how glam it looks painted white. The whole room is like a beautiful spring day.

I have no idea why I said the vanity is from the 60s, really dumb b/c I was thinking 30s or 40s. DUH
