Jamie's Bookcase of the Day

1-24-08bookcase1.jpg

We've featured a few bookcases on AT:Chicago this week (here and here), and we were happy to see Jamie's link in a post to the "bookcase of the day" section of her blog, I Suwannee. For those of you that have expressed a wish to see more books in interior design, this is the spot for you. Click below for more of Jamie's bookcase roundups...

Jamie collects photographs of bookcases from across the web, and posts them all in one spot. The top image is from sfgirlbybay. We saw a good selection of AT images, as well as may new photos we'd never seen before...

That "lowboy" bookcase featured in the top picture is my hero. Does anyone have any ideas where one can find such a beauty? I've been looking for a low bookcase like this on craigslist et al for the past 6 months, and it's amazing how many tall bookcases are available, but nothing short and sweet and 60 inches wide, tops. In the meantime, we're still avoiding the last four boxes of books that we can't unpack from moving. It drives me crazy and this bookcaes would solve it ALL. help.

I love full bookshelves. Wish I was at home reading for pleasure instead of at work...

You can make a nice low bookcase for cheap if you plan on painting it, mine was approximately $80 and I adore it

Wow! Jaime is my new hero too. I am totally adding her blog to my feed. I LOVE those pictures. It really makes me want to get our library organized and looking just as good.

The last time I was shopping for a bookcase I ended up frustrated because I couldn't find any the right size. Being the nerd that I am I ended up making a website that lets you filter the bookcases on Amazon by dimensions. I'm hoping it comes in useful to someone else as it has been to me.

I just *love* these pictures. The one with the built in book cases, above the door, is my favorite. It isn't unusual for me to look around our house and think about putting built ins all over above a certain level, including above all the doorways. I think we might have to do just that now that I've seen it.

I'm obsessed with bookcases. I'm also broke. So after driving myself crazy, I settled for a series of cheap, low bookcases from Walmart. Yes, Walmart is evil. But yes, I like my bookcases. The key for me was choosing something that was low to the ground rather than something that would tower over me and emphasize the lack of structural integrity. We have four 3-shelf bookcases lining one wall of our livingroom. They were easy to put together, are easily coverable with a large piece of beautiful fabric that hides their cheapness, easy to put together and cost just $18.97 a bookcase. You can order them at Walmart.com and if you can get over the 'yuck' factor mentally, you might like them more than you expect.
