Bob Weinstein and Eric Hensley are mid-century lovers through and through. Their home holds pieces from big names like Florence Knoll, Eero Saarinen, George Nelson, Arne Jacobsen, Vladimir Kagan and the list goes on and on.
Because of their respect for history, their home in Sag Harbor, Long Island isn't your typical Mid-Century home. Click through the jump to see what else is behind this door.

Although their home is different than other homes with a mid-century feel (built in 1750), they have taken great effort to open up spaces with respect to the house in order to bring in an atmosphere of freshness, light and volume. Mourning rooms became mud rooms, ceilings were lifted, maid quarters done away with and old wallpaper framed, for the past to live on in the new space.
The white picket fence out front was something they both loved before ever purchasing the house.

Their living room blends the heavy old-world Victorian style seamlessly with the clean lined Mid-Century pieces.

The pale walls and white ceilings and floors do wonders for keeping the space light and airy instead of heavy and dark.

The original plank floors were, sanded, bleached, and rubbed with white stain. They make anything that sits against them stand out.

i just looked at it again, and i have to say that while im a big fan of preservation (and they did, from the looks of it change a lot) i love his renovation. its done with such integrity and with a true respect for the period of the home, without having to live in a museum. although as a side not, i find it totally comical that its become such a fad to have ones dog photographed in a space! why?
"Howard, the couples box turtle is pictured above on a vintage Knoll sofa paired with two french art deco arm chairs" doesnt have the same ring to it does it! :)

I just grab a copy of Elle Decor and totally fell in love with home. I'm loving all things mid-century right now but had always wanted an older home. I was concerned that I would not be able to marry the two but this is such a great inspiration. Beautiful open, airy, clean modern interior while still retaining the homes architectural details.

I love the blue paint color in the very first photo. I've been looking for a blue just like that. Does anyone have any suggestions on a paint color by Behr that will look like that?

I'm referring to the light blue in the room to the right. The blue in the hallway seems a bit darker.

The equivelent would be to buy the Hess house and fill it with victorian bric-a-brac. It's all about context.
