The July issue of Canadian House & Home takes a peek inside a Halifax home and a Muskoka getaway. Although one's in the city and one's in a lakeside cottage community, they both have a clean, rustic aesthetic that's perfect for laid-back living...

Located on an island in Muskoga's lake country, this cottage was recently renovated by architect Gordon Ridgely.

White walls, hardwoord floors, and natural accents keep things simple and serene. A wraparound porch with windows lets light in throughout the house.

To try a similar look, use inexpensive wicker furniture and rattan rugs with white walls and neutral accents.

In this urban Halifax home, the owner creates the feel of a seaside cottage with vintage finds, comfortable furniture, and unfussy accents.

I believe its "Muskoka". I grew up there, in slightly more humble surroundings.

I love that kitchen wall! Do you think it could be used as a backsplash/wallcovering in a heavy-splatter area if it was thoroughly coated with polyurethane?

It's muskoka, not muskoga.

As I was buying my copy of this issue, the cashier said, "I think this is the most beautiful bedroom I've ever seen" (the Muskoka bedroom is featured on the cover). It's incredibly peaceful-looking, for sure, and they have a wonderful lake view out their bedroom window...
Janel -- there's still an instance of "Muskoga" in the post. (I worked as a proofreader one summer, and it spoiled me for life.)
