Farnsworth House by Paul Clemence

112806farnsworthbook.jpgOn our growing list of things to do, and we don't mean laundry, is taking a day trip out to visit Mies van der Rohe's Farnsworth House in Plano, Illinois. This collection of images by Paul Clemence caught our attention in the Dec/Jan issue of Dwell: Both black-and-white and color photographs taken "at different times of day and different seasons, showcase the many moods of the house that's been called a poem."

112806farnsworth.jpg A great gift, we think, especially if given with the promise to take a tour of the modernist masterpiece ($20 per person).

Farnsworth House, the book, is available from Schiffer Books ($34.95).

Well worth going too...I was never convinced of the value of "modern" architecture until I visited the Farnsworth house. Being there and walking through it and it's surroundings gave me a strong appreciating of this type of architecture. A must see.
