Gwyneth Paltrow's Favorite Online Shops for the Home

goop110608.jpegWe get Gwyneth's GOOP email, and today it included a few links to some of the online shops she frequents. Curious? The list (and links) are below the jump:

In today's GOOP email, Gwyneth writes, I've also included some of my favorite websites that everyone can take a look at no matter where they live. For off-the-beaten-track home and kitchen things, I like:

Anyone else out there getting GOOP?

I normally think she's quite pretty, but that is an unattractive photo. She looks like a gangly preteen.

CB2 and Williams Sonoma Home are off the beaten track? From where?

I don't really want to be off-topic, but that black lace and white dress she wore to the premiere of "Two Lovers" makes me question her vision, quite frankly.

According to Ms. Paltrow, "my life is good because I'm not passive about it". Then again, she has the time and money to make her life good. I think it's pretty pretentious for an incredibly wealthy, famous, and successful actress to be telling all of us how we can make our lives good. Maybe she should send all of us $1,000. That would be a great start. GOOP? I'll skip it.

What I find really questionable is who actually writes the Goop newsletter? I ask this because if you watch her 'On the road in Spain' tv program, she never says anything original. She acts either as a spanish language translator for Bittman & Batali ( and audience ) or as a parrot, repeating Mark & Mario's comments, ...' umm, yes, very smoky'..... 'umm, yes, so good'....
Is it possible for her to convey an original thought? Based on her selection of 'off-the-beaten-track home and kitchen things', like CB2 & William Sonoma Home, I think I will contine to pass on a subscription to her newsletter.

just check out the handpicked collection...it touts itself as all innovative and immaginative and expertly selected but it has the worst (and over priced) ideas I've ever seen.

Amen! I am completely repulsed at the idea of someone in her position giving me little pep talks on how to make my life great. I mean really- if you've got every opportunity in front of you, it's NOT THAT FRIGGIN HARD TO MAKE LIFE GOOD.

I just can't stand her. She is so bland and not a great actress. What makes celebrities think we care what they think? Oh, yah, the sheep who do care what they think!
(Wow, I am so crabby today)

Yes, this whole GOOP thing is incredibly pretentious, presumptuous and self-indulgent.

Many of you are coming across as very mean spirited. Everyone has the opportunity to explore their creativity and interests...and some of us (celebrity or not) choose to develop websites...I don't hear anyone criticizing those links you all seem to enjoy exploring for inspiration or just mindlessly passing time looking at beautiful things. Most of our mom's have said: If you don't have something nice to say...Besides that...she's beautiful, sensitive, intelligent, and probably, not judgmental.

If she were a self-made rich and famous person, as opposed to the off-spring of wealthy and famous people, I think her message would be more appealing. One of the reasons Oprah works for some people (disclaimer: I live in Japan and don't watch Oprah, but I know a lot of people consider her recommendations) is that she came from nothing and built her fame and fortune on her own talent and charisma. The sincerity of a statement about having a good life because you are not passive about it works a lot better when you weren't born with a silver spoon.

On principle, I won't support making a rich person who is offering lifestyle guidance richer when they aren't doing something creative or of their own design. If she's just a mannequin pointing at other people's work and saying that's what you should spend your money on, I'll pass.

I'm with muirwoods08. The comments are so nasty and personal. After all the frighteningly mean-spirited online comments (not on AT) during the election season, I'm kind of over people saying things anonymously online that they would never say openly. It would be more helpful to hear comments that are at least critical of her site rather than of her personally.

I have nothing against her, but I have to agree that there's something off-putting about someone who is so well off giving advice about how to live a good life. I will NOT be reading her newsletter.

My thoughts:

1. Isn't GP a little late to the "lifestyle store" game? Where has she been???? Is it me, or is this phenom on it's last tired leg?

2. With the New American Era being ushered in recently, will the downtrodden and chronically depressed citizens of this country require the stupidly of out-of-touch guidance from fabulously wealthy talk show hosts and actresses?

3. Why does GP think The Handpicked Collection (a UK based company mind you) is a realistic online buying option in our financially tanked country? Just double the prices listed in POUNDS, and there you go!

4. Where's the lifestyle website for poor single mothers? That's something I'd like to see.
