IKEAFANS

IKEAFANSstatic.gifFile under: "Not sure how we missed this one". Apologies in advance if everyone else is already aware, but IKEAFANS seems to be worth further investigation.

AT:NY did a post in February which somehow escaped our radar, so just in case the same thing happened to you, read on...

Not affiliated with IKEA, the site is a huge warehouse of information posted and provided by readers and site administrators.

The boards are chock full of info, instructions, ideas, and comments. Full length articles, such as A Masterpiece in Abstract White (top photo), outline full renovation projects with all the details.

Need an IKEA installer? There is a directory. Want to take a peek at other IKEA fan's blogs? Here's a list. Tackling a new type of DIY project? Check out the tutorials.

It's not exactly a light reading site, but it is one that we are absolutely bookmarking for future research...you never know when you'll need a little guidance when entering the big blue and yellow mothership.

I'll second the recommendation for IkeaFans.

The only gripe I have is that you have to register in order to view almost anything.

But that said, I haven't been spammed since registering, and when I did post a question, the responses I got were fast and helpful.

Oh - on finding installers, check Craigslist.

Look under the skilled trades section of the Jobs listings.

Search for Ikea and chances are someone will be advertising. I found a local (Portland, OR) contractor specializing in Ikea kitchen cabinets that way.

i am incredibly happy with my major renovation in boston (who ever says that?)
great quality, lovely home, price was good - still have a good relationship with the contractor -- he still comes if there is a problem (he says up to a year after the project was finished...
