This beautifully balanced interior comes from the cover of writer Amy Katoh and photographer Shin Kimura's book, Japan Country Living, an exploration of traditional homes in rural Japanese villages. The two also collaborated on an earlier book, Japan: The Art of Living that focuses on houses and apartments in the Tokyo area. Written in the early 1990s, both books are comprehensive catalogs of Japanese style that have enjoyed multiple print editions...

Amy Katoh is an American who moved to Japan in the 1960s and opened up a shop in Tokyo, Blue and White, specializing in traditional and modern Japanese crafts. She also has a third book worth checking out, Blue and White Japan. Photographer Shin Kimura has worked for Paris Vogue and Metropolitan Home.

I would love to live like this. Dream home for me.
Except for maybe the pot in the middle. Wouldn't want to roll over into a hot pot in the morning.

These would be what my dream home would look like, but then I am partial to Japanese culture. I love this! Living this simply would be great. I also love the wall hanging with cranes and koi.

This is gorgeous!!! I love the Japanese aesthetic. Although I wouldn't choose this for myself, it is truly unique and amazing.

This is so different than what I pictured the interior of these homes to look like. Very cool.

In a nut shell, this is my style: earthy sensibility, minimal yet rustic textural.
