Living Large in Small Spaces

2007-04-24-livinglarge.jpgPerfect. Ok, that's a dramatic opener, but this book is really remarkable in its structure, quality of photos and pure enjoyment value (at least for those of us interested in how people live small and cool).

Arranged from smallest to largest, the homes featured in Living Large in Small Spaces start at 100 square feet and go up to 1000 square feet; from simple student digs to the just-so grandeur of some very elegant abodes.

It's the closest thing we've seen to the AT House Tours meets the Small Cool Contest....on paper. 400 pages of inspiration, ideas, eye candy and voyeuristic forays into the homes of people from across the US.

Our copy is getting worn out from the many many times we pull it off the shelf and enjoy it. We've often wondered how many fellow AT-er's also have this book in their design library...

Written by Marisa Bartolucci with photos by Radek Kurzaj, it is available in bookstores everywhere and online.

Some of the homes pictured venture into the "If I had one hundred grand to drop on reno" categories and some (I think) are part-time homes (cheaters!). That said, I love this book and think it is totally inspiring.

It has been on my shelf for a few years, and is often pulled to look at "just one more time".

I love this book. I spent an inordinate amount of time looking through it at the bookstore, but didn't buy it--because my space is so small, I'm picky about how many books I buy!

The interviews and pics of the owners add alot to the book. A nice personal touch.

I love this book. I think the cover apt is one of the best I've ever seen. It's really well put together, but wait...the table wobbles? Put a few cards under one of the legs - problem solved! Where do you see something like that on the cover of a design book?

It's true that most of the apt's featured aren't bargains - they don't get their inspiration from ebay and the alley. But overall there's a nice mix, better than magazines which seem to be all this or all that.

The photography is amazing. When I'm ready to enter the smallest-coolest contest I'm going to ask that guy to come take the pics.

This book is one of the reasons I found AT. I take it with me on vacations I love it so much. Then I make people look at all the pictures even if they aren't interested.

I used to spend alot of time looking at this book in Barnes & Noble and finally bought it last year. I had to snatch it back from a next door neighbor friend a couple times who always promised to "bring it right back."
Great book, I keep it right next to my bed. Great book for design ideas and manhattan apt dreaming...

Years ago I discovered this book at the public library. I checked it out 3 times before I finally decided to invest in my own copy. I love the photos and reading about the owners of the homes.
