Peaceful Spaces by Alice Whately

It's been a while since we picked up an interior design guide at the bookstore, but this little, unassuming book spoke to us. Alice Whately advocates peaceful living through a combination of feng shui, clutter-clearing, and use of natural materials...

Divided into two sections, the first part of the book explores the theory of space clearing, creating balance, and connecting with nature. Part two is filled with photographs of clutter-free spaces that have an organic modern vibe. A few of the photos:

I love the idea of simplifying, and creating peaceful space. But does anyone have any tips/examples/sites for doing this when you live in the real world with a family and kids?

I like a lot of the Ryland, Peters and Small decorating books. The only thing I don't like is that they will often re-use many of the same photos/homes across many different books.
