apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Plywood Working for Everybody

plywoodwking-EVRY1-1.jpgOur husband has been woodworking, as a hobby, for almost a year now and while we are certainly reaping the benefits of his new love (a table, several frames, toys for the kid) what we've really gone gaga for is his book Plywood Working for Everybody.

Written by John G Shea, Plywood Working for Everybody is a great source for DIY-projects that would make any mid-century enthusiast drool. Featuring photographs that jump straight out of a Mad Men set, the projects range from simple to complex...

skidaround-PWE.jpgWhat exactly a "skidaround" is, we're not sure -- but if we want to make one, we have the instructions.

Are you in love with Don and Betty's bed? Create your own interpretation with Shea's instructions for making a plywood headboard.plywoodheadboard-PWE.jpg

What's more lovely? The table or the lamp? We can't decide either.plantertable-PWE.jpg

The music bench is perfect for vinyl diehards, and as a fellow vinyl lover, this may be on our DIY list.musicbench-PWE.jpg

Other gems include the built-in bed wall and storage headboard.storageheadboard-PWE.jpg

If you're a fan of Shea's work, (as apparently Gregory on AT:LA is) several of his books can be found on Amazon.

I love those older books. I have a couple including a "handyman" one from the early 1960's and while the cartoonish figures are a bit silly the photographs and instructions are awesome. It covers all sorts of household tasks and I am constantly referencing it when I need to replace a faucet or figure out why the toilet is leaking.

One thing though...
you say "Our husband has been woodworking" and I'm wondering if you're part of a polygamous marriage...

Monica, that's my question exactly. I'm glad that AT's editorial outlook is starting to encompass more domestic situations!

I third it. The royal 'we' is just weird.

"Our husband has been woodworking...what we've really gone gaga for is his book"

Seriously, this can't possibly be correct grammar.

the wording has me confused too. is the author of the book the husband to a group of wives?

i'm a bit confused what's being said, who is doing what, how many wives, which one had the kid, is the husband the author, etc.

but our we of me thinks the book looks cool.

Ha, ha Monica! I was just about to say the same thing. Definitely sounds polygamist. Yeah, "we" works, except when it doesn't.

i have to echo everyone else's comments. apartment therapy's use of the royal we is just getting out of control and irritating beyond belief. sometimes i have to skip posts just because the poor grammar is too much to take. i think everyone here understands that different people are responsible for the posts, and it's time to let you AT individuals post as individuals!

Seriously, AT, when are you going to take note that most of AT does not like the royal "we"?

Do each of us need to start spamming you with e-mails every day? Because every time it comes up in a post the comments are filled with it, and yet you ignore it all.

STOP THE "WE"!
