apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

A Reimagined Beaux Arts Co-op
Metropolitan Home

A sneak peek at the upcoming issue of Metropolitan Home brought a nice local surprise - a classic Chicago Beaux Arts co-op that got a chic and quirky modern makeover by architect Dirk Denison and designer Michael Richman is featured...

Located in a building designed by Benjamin Marshall in 1925, the apartment is owned by businessman Michael Alper.

Shown above, left to right:
1. The bedroom features a vintage Italian desk, custom nightstands designed to work with the vintage piece and an upholstered bed.
2. A custom "Huggy Bear" sofa by Richman in the library. (Great green walls!)
3. The owner uses the dining room as a home office. The glass topped table is built on a base by sculptor Gene Summers.

To view the entire article and all the photos look for the May issue of Metropolitan Home, on sale April 14.

Am loving the bed linen and pillows- can anyone tell me where they are from? I`ve had a look at Pottery barn, Crate and Barrel and The Company Store, but can`t seem to find them.

The chair in the first picture looks as comfortable as... sitting on a piece of wood.

Kindled - look at more high-end places like Bedside Manor for the linens.

When can I move in?? So harmonious, beautifully styled and yet eminently livable. That sofa juxtaposed with the photograph "behind" it is brilliant.

I'm not wild about the dining set....but good Lord the rest of the furniture is just to die for. If I every hit the lottery....I would buy that couch. It is divine.

I checked the back of the mag and apparently the green color is a Benjamin Moore color, but it doesn't specify the name of it... does anyone know the exact color??
