Pick-up laundering service seems to becoming more and more common. Last August we featured Mudroom Laundry, which really brought in a mixed bag of reviews. In this week's Time Out, we read about Drive Cleaning, over a three year old service that seems to have a more significant (and positive) presence than Mudroom. What they do:
- dry cleaning, laundering, ironing, folding
- free delivery
- email invoices
- automatic monthly billing
- service neighborhoods from 95th (South Side) to Evanston (way North)
They say: Drive Cleaning was founded because we know what you've been going through. Weve worked those long hours and werent able to get to the cleaners in time. Weve lived downtown without a vehicle and were forced to walk back and forth to the cleaners, and just like everyone else, we hated doing the laundry!
There is a 15-pound minumum (running $.95/lb for wash-n-fold service; compare that to Mudroom's intro rate of 50 lbs for $15 = Big difference). BUT, from the readers' reviews of Mudroom, the pricing, perks and experience of Drive Cleaning seems worth the switch.

I use them and have been using them for the past few months and I LOVE them. They have keys to my home and pick my laundry and dry cleaning up when I am at work and this saves me alot of time. They are a little more expensive (20 cents laundry/25 cents for shirts) than I used to pay at my previous drop-off laundromat, but it's a tiny price to pay to not have to drive over there and pick it up when it's done. Especially since I got rid of my car in December
If you sign up online with a referrel, you will get a $25 credit on your account guys. Just tell them Walter White referred you and you'll get it.
I use them once or twice a month and I love how everything is done via email from scheduling a pick-up to their billing. It's amazing that no one ever thought of this before.
FYI -- if you like your current cleaners but hate lugging your stuff to them, ask they pick-up and deliver. I love my cleaners and I just found out that they do pick-up and deliver! Since it's taken me 8 years to find a dry cleaner I like, I'm not letting them go even though I'm moving four blocks away in May...
