Tiny Cleaning Closets

052308tinycloset.jpgAlthough our home's space just about tripled after we moved, that doesn't mean there's a lack of efficiency and good ideas here. Similar to our kitchen's narrow "spice closet" (originally meant for an ironing board), we have this tiny cleaning closet at the top of our basement stairs. It's tall, but very shallow, and perfect for a few little things like hanging brooms and shopping bags.

Does anyone else have one of these old-fashioned tiny cleaning closets? Love it or hate it?

i have one of these! I live in a 1950s studio where the closet separates the living room and the sleeping area, and the fridge is tucked in by the closet. I keep my foldable drying rack and swiffer broom in it. I wish i could keep a few more things in there.

We do! We have a 1950's bungalow that also had the flip out area for an ironingboard. The mr.built a beautiful spice rack there for me using cut 2 X 4's and chair rail.

i wish i had any sort of closet space in my kitchen... our cleaning supplies are under the sink or tucked between the fridge and the wall!

We used to have one. I miss it. We kept a step ladder in it and the usual cleaning supplies. Now our step ladder sits out which is not ideal.

I had one in my old place in Andersonville. It was tucked between the door to the hall and the door to the pantry in the kitchen. We took out the funky and broken ironing platform and fitted shelving into; the shelves we spaced to perfectly fit in a collection of tea boxes. People always got a little excited when they opened the door to pick out some after dinner tea and had about 50 choices.

i'm having an in-wall gas heater taken out of my bathroom. it's about 18"x12". it's in kind of an awkward position--about 2 feet up from the floor & close to the door--but i'm going to leave the hole, finish it, throw a door on it, and use it for tiny cleaning supplies. might be perfect for a toilet brush.
