Clip File: Decorating with Neutrals

neutralclipfile100408.jpgSince we are thinking about color all this month on AT, we thought we'd put together a clip file of some of the more subtle color combo posts we've featured on the site - those that incorporate neutrals and naturals with other colors. Black, white, metallics, beiges, greys, browns - they can be beautiful, especially when they meet up with the right partner color. Jump below for six great neutral-based color combo roundups:

as much as i try and try to love color for my own space, my heart always goes back to these neutral tones. i wonder why that is? while i do enjoy collecting colorful rooms for my inspiration folder, the neutrals are the ones that always get me.

love this clip files! I allways prefer neutralswith a twist when it comes to my own place. I love colours at someone elses homes, but I need it neutral and soft. I work work as a comminity radio coordinator, that means that my working place is crowded with different leaflets, papers and lots of different people, so I really need it simple and plain at home.

I need to have at least one bright yellow pillow somewhere... Only neutral room appears too "dead" to me. I like a lot of white and wood, but the color is the spice.

I appreciate bright color but I seem to always come back to neutrals at home. With such pared down colors the differences in hues are really noticeable, showing you what works together and what doesn't. The neutral backdrop also makes the brighter colors that you do introduce seem like jewels. It provides a calm environment in a crazy world.

I am definitely in the color camp, but I think these neutral tones are gorgeous and soothing (especially the bedroom shot), not at all stark. I aim to strike a delicate color balance in my little place.

I love the neutrals....I often think *how boring* but really its elegant and soothing. Its often hard to make the rooms feel warm though...I think I am finally learning how to do achieve that with texture and layering.
