apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Close-up: Unconventional Art from B, Joe & Rachael's Place

A little while ago, we shot a house tour with a great sense of humor. It's an unconventional apartment that gave us some good ideas for ways to make art out of the mundane...

Beth, Joe, and Rachael's home is definitely worth checking out for creative ideas on a budget. From air vent art to strategic placement of found objects, their apartment is a lesson in artfully arranging thrift store finds.

FIRST ROW
• Thrift store art makes a big impact clustered together on a wall.
• A textile rack hung with fabrics creates instant artwork.
• We love the pairing of an elaborate Chinese screen and an air vent.
• Resting on a windowsill next to a wooden ship, Joe's boots look like found art.
• A sculpture of a brass boat doubles as trellis for climbing plants.

SECOND ROW
• In an oddly shaped nook, a thrift store sculpture seems right at home.
• Another framed vent creates unexpected art.
• A painting hung above the tub brings a sense of grandeur to the bathroom.

Normally crooked pictures drive me crazy, but theirs are kind of cute, all hung together like that in their funky little frames.
