Casey's Russel Wright Dinnerware Collection

Name: Casey
Location: Kent, Ohio
Collection: Russel Wright American Modern & Residential Dinnerware
Size: Embarrassingly large; 10-15 pieces on rotating display
Value : Sentimental

Casey tells us: I've long been a fan of all things mid century modern and when we bought our first home 2 years ago, a 950 sq. ft. cottage built in 1956, I finally...

... had an appropriate outlet for my passion. I began collecting Russel Wright dinnerware soon thereafter because I love the graceful shapes of the handles and the vibrant colors. It's far from rare and that's how I like it. It's not too expensive and quite durable; most of my pieces in my mix-and-match collection receive occasional light use. My first pieces of American Modern (including the juniper green teapot and chartreuse pitcher) were given to me by my style-conscious Grandmother (who happens to reside near the small town where it was manufactured), so the collection has sentimental value.

Thanks, Casey!

    If that's embarrassingly large, then I should be really embarrassed about my Russel Wright dishes.

    Right. To be even close to embarrassing there'd have to be a zero at the end of those figures! Perhaps it's a typo...

    mmm... russell wright. I inherited a set of American Modern in bean brown and also a few other pieces in chartreuse. When setting up house, I chose to put the chartreuse pitcher on our telephone stand (even though I actually have a retro telephone). My family thought I was crazy, but that chartreuse looks SO good against the old dark wood!

    I thought she was saying the entire collection was large, but she keeps 10-15 items out at a time.

    I really like these pieces. That blue glaze is really pretty.

    Russel Wright understood that beautiful balance between aesthetics and practicality. Love your collection.

    @kelleyk, yes I think you're right (Wright?) ;-)
    Thanks for the clarification!

    What a lovely collection, and I'd love to see the rest of this home as well!

    LOL, Mirandabee. When I was married, my surname used to be mispronounced "wright" but that was all wrong....

    I used to collect many lines of dinnerware and pottery, but over the years, my Russel Wright dishes are the ones that have continued to appeal to me the most. Most of my other collections have been sold off or packed away, but American Modern dishes and Eclipse glasses still get prominent shelf space.
