Color Chips: Puerto Vallarta y Sayulita, Mexico

050508yellowblue.jpgThere's nothing quite like pops of color and texture captured in Mexico (or any other country that's foreign to us). We learned that Cinco de Mayo is the "least significant" holiday around this time in Mexico, according to a Puerto Vallarta local we spoke with Saturday. Trumping this day are Children's Day (April 30), Labor Day (May 1) and Mother's Day (May 10) - all of which deserve lots of celebrating. More color below the jump!

Those types of benches are found all over mexican public parks. I remember in the small town my family is from that about every 2 years they would repaint them a different color, lime green one year, fire engine red the next, bubble gum pink, and so on. Made for a nice day at the plaza.

Great, now I want to be back in PV... and I've only got 7 more months to wait!

Me amo Sayulita! How I wish I could be at that palapa sipping a cold one right now. I can almost taste the freshly caught huachinango.

PV has very little color compare to the interior parts of Mexico. I have a thousand or more pictures of the most random objects I took all over Mexico while traveling through the colonial cities and towns. The colors are amazing and used so freely. I am always inspired yet I obcess on the perfect grey in my house.

Weirdest thing... Lori's right for the most part. Some towns are actually (by law) painted uniform colors, mind you in colorful hue combos like bright white and red, yellow and brown, etc and they LOVE their wood, which is dirt cheap and lasts forever... But only in the south. In the north, it's the total opposite, since many buildings are vintage, from the Revolution era to the swinging 70s, it's somewhat chaotic architectonically but very toned down in color (since the sun hits'em hard, it's all sunbleached pretty much and EVERYTHING looks disstressed.)
