Whoa! Color Overload And Then Some
Adventures in Loft Living Day 3

111908-bathroom.jpg One of the joys of moving is deciding what colors to paint your new space. Is it going to be something calm and serene or something bright and shocking? We are guessing that the people who moved from our space before us were a bit on the eccentric side of life. The photo above is taken in our bathroom and it's a little hard to swallow in a place that is usually a bit more tame. Click through the jump to see the electric color that our one drywall-wall is painted.... think Kermit.

111908-green.jpg This green in small doses is great (and we like crazy shades of green) but as a whole wall it's making our artwork and furniture appear sour shades that just aren't sitting well with us. It should be fun to paint over.... and over....

I like the green against your big &...

...and if you threw a huge Navy carpet on the floor and had reddish-toned wood furniture it would balance out rather nicely.

For paint, I would highly recommend the new BM Aura. We just used a gorgeous, deep silvery blue paint over a bright (and loud!) orange wall. The BM Aura is a bit on the pricey side but all it took was one easy and smooth coat.

I don't think its fair saying its a color overload without seeing how the previous owner decorated the loft. It could have been amazing, interesting and unusual depending on how they matched the furniture, especially given that the color could have really balanced out the dark bricks.

As someone who painted my entire guest bedroom a similar green, I know exactly what you mean. A quick peak of it looks good, but after awhile it kind of weighs on you.

    Mattab,

I had almost the same color and the exact same thing happened to me. I loved it at first but after a while I couldn't even stand the sight of it. It gave me an instant headache, both from looking at it and from thinking about giving up a weekend to get rid of it forever.

Wow that's so intense. I love bright colors, but in small amounts please.

I'm in love with that blue, as well.

Speaking of bathrooms with shocking color schemes, my previous apartment was painted when I was first shown it. The main living areas were tasteful color combos that I was totally down with, and I insisted they be kept. The bathroom, on the other hand, was painted with big vertical stripes of red and an orangish yellow. If ever a bathroom looked like it was designed with McDonald's in mind, this was it! I had the maintenance crew prime over it before I moved in, and then proceeded to paint it a magenta/fuschia shade that I affectionately referred to as "harem pink", which I'm sure was an issue for the next tenant, but that's another story altogether. ;)
