City Boy Grill

071106cityboy.jpgTransporting a grill, even a mini Weber, to the park is messy and cumbersome (though we will continue to do it on occasion because we don't feel the need to own more than one grill). But the City Boy Grill aims to stylishly and compactly make it possible to grill anywhere on more of a whim.

Here's the pitch: "The City Boy portable grill can easily be taken along on a boat trip, for a walk in the forest, or on your balcony...

...Because of its small size it travels along easily even on the back of your bicycle. It is also convenient for winter use by Sunday skaters or ice fishers."

Made from powder painted steel, stainless steel, and oak, and designed by Klaus Aalto, you can find it at I.D. Chicago for $300.

Any takers?

It's nice, but where's the lid? I wouldn't want to travel with an open greasy grill plate.

i like the looks, but i wish their website would give more information about the innards. and i agree about wanting a lid for it. we got a grill this summer and it was the best investment ever! a Weber BabyQ. absolutely love it!

Tempting, but the $300 is a bit too high for my piggy bank. Anyone have any good suggestions for a stove top grill?

$300?!! You gotta be effen kiddin' me. Seems to be the trend these days that designing anything stylish automatically gives you license to exhorbitantly overcharge for it. For $34.97 on amazon.com, you can get the portable Weber Smokey Joe "gold" with lid lock for carrying--which one do you think will last longer? And I understand that the cost of made-to-order products is considerably higher than mass-produced ones, but this is just ridiculous...

Kate,

Check out the Lodge Griddle (click on my name). not sure if this is the kind of thing you're looking for. we've had for two years now and love it! pancakes on one side and steaks and burgers on the other. condition it when you first get it by coating with vegetable oil and baking it. hope that helps.

Does Jonathan Ive know that his Apple Power Mac G4 Cube design has been resurrected as a grill? Seriously!

Not that it's worth $300, but people are missing the point: this is a gas grill, not charcoal. The little Webers are great but it requires lugging charcoal around, and it's messier. This thing you just turn it on and go, no lighter fluid, ash, etc.

I agree with the weber fans - I have the Smokey Joe and it's fantastic. And for the $265 price diffence, I'm more than happy to lug a couple pounds of charcoal around when I need to. Not to mention that food grilled over charcoal tastes so much better than gas!

Great idea, but how about the Goanywhere gas gril from Weber? I have that, it's been a fantastic little gas grill, been using it most of the year since I first purchased it in the summer of 2004. I just place it on a folding metal table on my apartment balcony, with the lid locked in place, gas canister removed and placed inside, it's easily portable and only set me back some $60 then.

Perfect I say.
