A Modern Mountain Retreat by Room & Board

mountain1072908.jpgAnyone who receives the Room & Board mailers knows that they have been featuring their customers homes, giving a bit of a 'behind the scenes' or 'peek inside' feel to the catalog. This summer, they featured a modern mountain vacation home furnished almost entirely by R&B for a couple from England. More photos below:

Above the jump: Sofas surround a large leather ottoman instead of a coffee table. Warm colors dominate, from the honey colored wood ceiling to the retro chair pattern and striped rug.

mountain2072908.jpg Super symmetrical bedroom. The bench echoes the bedframe, and is surrounded by lots of doubles: the nightstands, lamps and framed artwork.

mountain3072908.jpgThe pumpkin colored rug is our favorite detail in the dining room.

mountain4072908.jpg Calm and simple kids space.

mountain5072908.jpgThree etageres hold the book collection which adds personality to an otherwise more "vacation-y" space.

I can't decide if it's just pretty and simple or if it's dull. I guess it's dull. Nice colors, nice furniture, etc., but it looks like a fake family lives there --- it looks like a catalog, which of course, for all intents and purposes, it is. Much too perfectly matched. Booooring.

Not really my cup of tea. The rug in the den is terrible. Not to mention everything in the den seems a bit dull and boring. I think it could have been better had the sofa's had some color rather than some boring beige.

The light fixture in the dining room is cool. But it's about the only thing I find interesting about this home. Boring in one word.

Screams "Generic!" so loudly, it is deafening or brain-numbing.

Or both.

This family obviously left their taste and style back in England - It's amazing how they managed to use all of the most uninteresting pieces that Room and Bored sell...
(pun intended)

I blame the stylists. Yes these rooms are bland and cataloguey, but more interesting or personalised accessory, accent, and art choices could have rendered all of the R&B stuff background. As it is, it looks rather like a budget rental chalet.

Am I really supposed to believe that these generic people just "happened" to buy everything they own at Room and Bored?

I think it's generic and bland. This is what happens when you buy all your furnishings from the same place.

I would need to be on LSD for this house to be interesting.

We're supposed to believe children live there too!
