We're always on the lookout for ways to mix traditional pieces with modern style. Dining tables are a common family heirloom, sometimes passed down from parents to children over generations. Although your grandma's table might not match your decor exactly, there are ways to make it mesh with a more modern sensibility...
These photos from British photo/styling agency Inspace provide a few good examples of traditional tables in modern rooms. Accessories are key to integrating contemporary pieces with antiques. To bridge the gap between the two, InSpace stylists used things like vintage photos in modern frames, playful candlesticks, and modern vases filled with flowers. Sunny, light-colored rooms also help to set a serene backdrop that doesn't compete with the layered look.

I used to think that putting traditional furniture in modern spaces was design anathema - but I have since realized that I truly love the warmth of traditional furnishings and have grown to enjoy the contrast of old and new.

I've always believed in mixing the two. The traditional mitigates the straight lines and starkness of the modern.
