We're all used to seeing the Thanksgiving table as a veritable horn-of-plenty. Heavy with food, dense with rich autumnal colors and patterns. Which makes these pared down Thanksgiving tablescapes all the more refreshing...

We love the sinewy bouquets, crisp white backgrounds, and relatively spare (by Thanksgiving standards) aesthetic of these tabletops. What does your ideal Thanksgiving table look like?

Not to be the downer, but why not forego the centerpiece and allow people to see the person across from them. I actually don't think I have ever been to a Thanksgiving dinner with a centerpiece - that's where the host put the salt and pepper shaker :). But our families do dinner buffet style - go get your food and then get your seat.

I love the decor in #4 (I actually already had that picture in my inspiration file). Not only is it beautiful and clean, but it is also low enough not to preclude cross-table conversation.

Yeah, the huge centerpiece is great for a buffet table against a wall but not for a table where people sit to eat. Small centerpieces/bouquets work better for this purpose.

I agree with the other posters... I dislike large centerpieces.
Then again, I think the ideal table has NO centerpiece. I love modern decor and cooking.... so our table is white glass, has white china, modern flatware, ice blue and red napkins, and 2 red candle sticks. That way, the food is the real centerpiece......

FYI: The 1st image with tall vase IS a buffet. Note the plates on the chair. So it makes sense to have a large display...
I am setting up my buffet table around a large 70s hand-made clay candelabra that I just found. It is so cool! I always do something very simple on the dining table. Not sure what it will be yet.

I thought this post was going to be about a pared-down meal, not just the table decor (maybe something like that would appear on the kitchen site?). That is something I would really like to see. To me the perfect Thanksgiving is simple and elegant and modest in all regards. I have never understood the idea of gorging and overconsumption as a way of being thankful.

I hope no one will serve their Thanksgiving turkey with the stuffing pouring out of the cavity , a la photo #2 - that's a good way to give your guests food poisoning.
