A Home Office in a Hallway

How do you fit a computer workstation, a small library of books, and your files into an entry hall? Click below to find out...

This entryway closet has been repurposed into a functional workspace. Overhead lights and a sliding door make the space feel less like a closet and more like an office, a corner desk takes up a sliver of space, and there's just enough room left over for a chair, some wall shelves, and a bulletin board.

This photo comes from the Raumplus closet company, a German manufacturer of sliding doors. Like most catalog photos, it's a very staged shot, but it offers a lot of ideas for designing a home office in a small space.

Our favorite detail is the ceiling shelves, which incorporate under-shelf lighting to illuminate the doorway and closet. For more information, visit Raumplus online.

I love how they have the doors slide all the way open -- it really makes the closet look less cramped and less, well, closet-like.

This is so Cool! My favorite is the bookshelves - I never have enough room for all of my books! I wanted to add another tip - if you're going to do this in an apartment where they won't let you paint the usual white walls, spice up your great little office with removable vinyl wall decals. I use these all the time, and get mine from wallslicks.com. Their decals have a matte finish so they blend into the painted wall and look like they were part of the original decor. You can get fun ones or sophisticated ones - all colors and themes.

How is the housing/ box/ fixture for the under-mounted/ recessed lighting not coming into contact with the books just above? Where is the wiring for that?

I love it!!! I have one at my house that I call the "cloffice." But this one is much sleeker.

Another office in a closet - this was done several times before. I really don't get how people don't become claustrophobic from staring at nothing but a closet wall the whole time - having absolutely no sunlight would kill me.
