Closet Alternative: The Hallway Rack

11-19-08hallway1.jpg

In every apartment we've ever inhabited, we've had a major lack of closet space. We usually make do by finding a nook at the end of the hallway or next to the door where we can fit a hallway rack. As much as we'd like our entryway to remain clean and simple, it usually ends up overloaded, so we were happy to find this photo from Emery & Cie with a fully stocked hallway rack that actually looks good...

The key to this set-up is the rich green background that would beautify almost any space. We're planning to go a little bold in our own entryway, and we're hoping that some color and decluttering will spruce up our space.

In case you're in the same boat, a few options for hallway racks to get you inspired:

That's absolutely gorgeous with the green walls.

In our house, we got a rolling metal clothes rack from a retail supply store. I holds a lot of stuff, and it can be wheeled out of sight if necessary.

I don't know where the building in this photograph is, but I need to live live there.

I also use a rolling metal rack for my clothes because some someone walled up my closet about 100 years ago. Strange people, the Victorians.

Hi rosenatti, this building is probably somewhere in Antwerp or Brussels (Belgium-Europe). Emery et Cie is a great store, I've been there a few times. They are expensive, though.

Hi, Hinke... I should not have clicked on the Emery et Cie link. I now want to crawl inside the company's website and live there forever. So much green! So many designs! So little time!
