Entryway Built-Ins

Built-ins are a smart approach to storage in an entryway, since they integrate space for coats and shoes into the architecture of a room. Unlike a hodge-podge of hooks, built-ins can streamline and declutter the area near the front door.

Shown above are a few different options, from storage benches to drawers built into a staircase. If you don't have a defined entryway, think about using built-ins to create one. In Jay's Chelsea studio, for instance, a built-in case of drawers and shelves simultaneously creates an entry hall and a bedroom "wall."
