Small Space Landing Strip Suggestion

110408-landingstrip.jpg We first mentioned this great space saving idea yesterday in our Midwest Fall Cure, but for those who might not be reading all of those details, we wanted to bring this great idea into the spotlight. Click through for more on making this box into a landing strip.

Home_For_2 is knee deep in the Midwestern Fall Cure and shared this great idea with us. Because the architecture in their apartment doesn't lend itself to a natural landing strip, they are contemplating installing this small box right inside the door.

Often times we think landing strips have to revolve around a piece of furniture. A table or a bench perhaps. But this is a great reminder that we don't have to take up our precious floor space with our daily items that come in and out of the house.

We can't wait to see it in use! Thanks Home_For_2!

For apartments tight on space, but with a metal door, I also like the magnetic mesh bins from the Container Store. I use that, and have a chalkboard stuck above for to-do and shopping lists.

I was thinking of doing something similar in my space, but mounting the box so the open area was facing away from the wall rather than toward the ceiling.
where did they get that box?

I like the idea of the bamboo box mounted to the wall. You could mount 3 of them - maybe with one upside down as a shelf to hold a small vase of fresh flowers.

Like the box idea!

If you mount the box high enough you could put a coat/purse hook below.

I have a box like that in my entranceway! It's great! I leave a bowl of dried flowers and another with change for the delivery people. I also use the top of the box for holding sunglasses

Sorry for chiming in late - I have been swamped at work, and when I finally got a free moment to check out Apartment Therapy this week, I was pleasantly surprised to see our landing strip idea had been posted!

Matt M. - The box is from Bed Bath & Beyond

Traderdi - Thanks for the upside-down suggestion - I think we might buy a few more and use one for flowers. I like the idea of creating a small vignette.

Everyone - Thanks for the comments and suggestions! We will resume our work this weekend (after catching up on some sleep) and keep you posted on how it turns out!

I just picked up a couple of these boxes at BBB with the same idea in mind!!

Home_For_2 how did your landing strip turn out? Any updates or tips on mounting?

Thanks.
